Here's how you can stand out to healthcare employers when seeking a promotion.
Aside from integrity, there is probably nothing that distinguishes a person more than consistently delivering results. There is premise, there is promise and then there is proof. "Premise" is the ideation phase - where vision coalesces and opinions run wild. "Promise" is the commitment phase to the project (sort of). It is as much a sales phase as anything else. "Proof" is the fulfillment of both - the proverbial words being made flesh. For a surgeon, the best process analogue is preparing a patient for surgery. The first two steps are important, but everything culminates in the delivery. Reputations are made based on demonstrated outcomes. Be the person that can make the words flesh.

What do you do if you're a healthcare manager looking to expand your career horizons?
The actual heavy lifting in healthcare doesn’t happen in a board room. If you’re really passionate about making a difference in healthcare and expanding your professional horizons, you should apply to medical school- assuming you have the academic qualifications, tenacity and commitment.

Endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke in failed intravenous tissue plasminogen activator versus non-intravenous tissue plasminogen activator patients: revascularization and outcomes stratified by the site of arterial occlusions.
Stroke
Intracranial mechanical thrombectomy is a therapeutic option for acute ischemic stroke patients failing intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (IV tPA). We compared patients treated by mechanical embolus removal in cerebral ischemia (MERCI) thrombectomy after failed IV tPA with those treated with thrombectomy alone.

Clinical outcomes in middle cerebral artery trunk occlusions versus secondary division occlusions after mechanical thrombectomy: pooled analysis of the Mechanical Embolus Removal in Cerebral Ischemia (MERCI) and Multi MERCI trials.
Stroke
The benefit of endovascular revascularization of patients with acute ischemic stroke with middle cerebral artery (MCA) secondary division (M2) occlusions as compared with MCA trunk (M1) occlusions is not known. In this analysis, we compared revascularization status and clinical outcomes in patients with angiographically confirmed MCA M1 versus isolated M2 occlusions treated with mechanical thrombectomy using the Merci Retriever devices.

Hydrogel-coated coils for the treatment of cerebral aneurysms: preliminary results.
Neurosurgical Focus
The authors present a retrospective analysis of their initial experience with the recently developed MicroVention HydroCoil to treat patients with cerebral aneurysms. Unlike the bare metal coils initially available for endovascular treatment of aneurysms, HydroCoils have a layer of hydrogel polymer surrounding a platinum metallic core. The hydrogel polymer expands soon after making contact with blood. The expanded hydrogel polymer provides increased volumetric filling compared with bare metal…

The expanded hydrogel polymer provides increased volumetric filling compared with bare metal coils and offers a more biocompatible surface, as demonstrated in animal models.

Neutralizing antibody against interleukin-6 attenuates posthemorrhagic vasospasm in the rat femoral artery model.
Neurosurgery
The degree to which inflammation contributes to the development of posthemorrhagic vasospasm is controversial. In the present study, we investigated the relationship between various inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin [IL]-1alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-6) and the development of experimental vasospasm. Our results indicate that cytokine-mediated inflammation is active in the setting of posthemorrhagic vasospasm produced by the rat femoral artery model. In particular, the…

Our results indicate that cytokine-mediated inflammation is active in the setting of posthemorrhagic vasospasm produced by the rat femoral artery model. In particular, the profound increase in IL-6 levels after exposure to hemorrhage and the ability of a polyclonal antibody against IL-6 to reduce vasospasm suggest that IL-6 may play a prominent role in the development of vasospasm in this model.
