It's interesting how retailers are slowly landing on the same three options for Self Checkout refinement to solve shrink. 1. Adding employee assisted checkout, 2. Adding barriers to leaving the store without confirmation of purchase (mechanical or human) or as a last resort, 3. Completely eliminating the option. From the consumer perspective its slowly becoming a negative experience... Curious what other options might exist..

Had a great conversation with James Morris talking about the evolution of the CISO role, ways to identify talent and more. Understanding the personalities, culture and talents of people can be a better indicator of success in cybersecurity than pure technical ability. Too many people don't know they can be successful in cyber because they don't realize they already possess the knowledge and experiences. They just need some guidance on translating their experiences into the cyber world.

What is the value and role of #leadership? Having joined The Guitar Center Company I'll use a musical metaphor. Imagine an orchestra. Full of very capable musicians. Only every person is stuck to their chair and half are wearing ear plugs (ie business silos). How can they coordinate to produce a symphony? Enter the conductor! Like in business, the leader can overcome the blockers that inhibit collaboration. The best can produce a superior shared outcome. And like in business, the conductor respects the expertise of every different role in the group. They don't tell the trumpeter how to do their job & create the sound, but rather they lead them towards what is the best sound to create.

We have Glean Ai as our personalized work assistant now, streamlining information retrieval across various platforms like Confluence and Slack. Glean simplifies and condenses vast amounts of data into concise summaries, enhancing productivity and comprehension. This tool has become invaluable, empowering me to access organizational insights efficiently and fostering my intellectual curiosity. Glean even simplifies and explains me complex architectures of micro services making it easier for me to understand the application flow. Looking ahead, I anticipate the integration of Glean with ServiceNow, which will be a game changer for my team. Often we seek out those who are similar to us. It's human nature! Yesterday was the Berkshire Hathawayannual meeting, and Warren Buffet gave a great example of the strength that can come from our differences. He shared how different he was from his 60+ year partner, Charlie Munger, who died last year. He explained how they saw the world and thought about business vastly different. Warren went on to explain multiple times throughout his comments how they valued and respected each other’s perspective and how their differences complemented each other to the benefit of the overall company. The growth and strength of Berkshire is an example of the power that can come from effectively working with people who think, act, and see the world differently than you. This is a great example of diversity and inclusion! If you've ever spoken to me about leadership, I often speak to the power of pairing leaders with others who can complement them to maximize strengths and mute weaknesses. Warren and Charlie were definitely one of those great pairings! I appreciate the powerful example of what is possible when true partnerships are found, formed, and embraced.
