As someone who has had to bring brands through innovation upheaval for the last 15 years, the first question you need to ask yourself is 'why are you innovating in the first place?' - Do you want the press and social recognition for trying new things? - Do you want to reimagine the relationship structure between your business and customers in a new way? - Are you looking for efficiency and cost savings? - Do you need to innovate to stay competitive and if so, how? And finally, you will want to measure what success means for you and your group. Many innovate for the sake of being innovative vs with a true business goal in mind. Ensure you know what short and long term success look like as you embark on these new initiatives.

There is often often very little differentiation between brands. Products and services are continually evolving and one toothpaste is not necessarily better than another but the narrative and story that each brand can tells is what it can own, uniquely. Ivory soap built its brand on having the purest, cleanest soap on the market despite being extremely similar, chemically, to other products on the market.

What are some creative ways to use social media to promote your brand without coming across as too salesy?
People reward authenticity. Don’t make the assumption that they don’t know when you are selling to them. Show them respect as smart consumers and focus on the why and the how the product solves a problem and they will come along for the ride.
