    Creative Mornings

“Why does this keep happening to me?” It’s a statement many of us have probably said to ourselves time and time again. When we want to break this cycle, we’re looking to create new outcomes, and outcomes must start with identifying purpose. Who are you? What do you stand for? Break Conference 2014

For this presentation, I relate the importance of facilitating relationships between systems and humans while at the same time, maintaining the character of the self and the collective. Whereas wholes represent organizations, systems, and platforms, while parts refer to humans, behaviors, and workflows.

Whereas wholes represent organizations, systems, and platforms, while parts refer to humans, behaviors, and workflows.

The basis of the talk will be based around the Starling, one of the migratory birds of Switzerland. Birds are able to coordinate collectively (flocks) in ways single birds could never do, while at the same time maintaining the integrity of each individual bird. This behavior is driven by simple, established rules of a shared vision as a collective. I believe our work as designers is to understand the goals of the Brambling vs. the goals of the flock. At the beginning, middle, and end of any project, one question embodies this understanding. What is our common agenda?

Break-ing down boundaries, Break-ing into new worlds, and Break-ing up with convention through concepts of Inherent vs. Accidental Complexity, Collaboration vs. Collective Behavior, Integrity of World Views of the Self vs. the Collective, and how Design allows us to break into worlds where previously it was not.

    UX Cambridge 2014

Learn how to be better at what you do.

Conferences like UX Cambridge offer a great way to learn more about UX design approaches and methodologies, but how do you know if you’re getting any better at what you do? How do you help your team produce better quality work? How do you know where you want to go?

How do you assess your work and your progress? What do you do well? What could you improve? How do you know where to focus?

In this discussion session, Ryan and Francis will…

In this discussion session, Ryan and Francis will suggest some approaches that you could take… the design of UX design, if you like… but they really want to do is to give you an opportunity to share your own experiences, and learn from one another.

  • Workshop: Let's get selfish - assessment as a means to drive your UX career

    UX Lausanne 2014

To delight users, the role of a designer or design manager is not only to understand user needs, but also to understand individual or team goals. Where do you want to be at the end of a project? Where does your team want to be? How will you know if you got there? These questions are at the heart of self-assessment.

In this new workshop, we'll focus on practical strategies for utilizing existing design efforts to better inform your goals as a designer or design manager. Using the concept…

Where does your team want to be? How will you know if you got there? These questions are at the heart of self-assessment.

In this new workshop, we'll focus on practical strategies for utilizing existing design efforts to better inform your goals as a designer or design manager. Using the concept of self and team evaluation, you can leverage client work to improve your ability to drive your UX career. Feedback from this assessment can be used to help determine how much you’re improving (great for case studies and acquiring new clients!) as well as better understanding what you might want to improve as a designer or design manager.
