How can you tailor your business strategy using customer segmentation in uncertain environments?
Try to incorporate an experimental culture in your organization. Make a regular cadence of unearthing your assumptions about your customer segments and turning them into hypotheses and testing them. By doing this frequently and continuously, you’ll be more likely to catch pivots in segment behaviors and derive meaningful insights to adjust your strategy accordingly.

How can you tailor your business strategy using customer segmentation in uncertain environments?
The deeper that you understand your customers and their journeys the better you are equipped help them meet their needs and pivot as their needs change. I really like the use of online communities for this. Think about the ultimate value that you are providing for your customers and create a community for them to be able to interact with one another. These communities like already exist somewhere but by hosting it (and resisting the urge to sell in it) you can create an ecosystem where you can learn about their challenges and motivations while also co-creating your solutions with them.

How can you tailor your business strategy using customer segmentation in uncertain environments?
It’s good to think about the demographics of your customer segments. Often they will remain fixed, but your segmentation should also include psychographic factors as well. This includes things like cultural and sociological influences, and behavioral factors. These things change quite frequently. Think about the touch points that you have with your customer segments and how you can gain more insight at different points. Remember that you can track behavioral changes with analytics, but to derive meaning you must talk to your customers. Something that I’ve noticed many businesses do lately is create online communities for their customers. This is a great way to remain engaged with your customers and understand how they think.
