As I prepare for my first #NYTechWeek, I’ve come up with a few tips to help navigate these major social events and make the most out of your opportunities. Networking pros, please share the wisdom you’ve accumulated in the comments section! 📆 Game Planning: Get your eyes on scheduled events list as soon as it comes out! Identify the events you should attend based on topics that align with your interests and goals. 🎯 Goal-Setting: What are you looking to achieve? Want to meet potential clients or investors? Looking to increase the visibility and awareness of your company’s mission? Want to connect with industry influencers and learn about innovative market trends? 💬 Engage: Effective networking is oftentimes about building authentic relationships from scratch. Approach someone new and introduce yourself, ask questions, listen closely, and give thoughtful responses. And, be yourself. 🎙 Pitch Perfect: You know what it is… have that elevator pitch finely tuned and ready for its debut… over, and over again. ️ ☕ Reflect and follow-up: Initial engagement is just part of the relationship-building process. Check in with like-minded, mission-aligned folks you connected with. Set up a call, grab lunch, chat over coffee, and continue creating opportunities for you to understand one another's goals. Events can be long and may require rest so practice self-care and recharge your social battery as often as you need to. If you’re a social butterfly, hit a happy hour with your new industry friends. In New York City from June 3-9? Come join Hack.Diversity and TECH WEEK by a16z's at our event on June 4! Register below! . .

Our latest findings reveal that ~55% of assets exiting in 2023/24 stayed in portfolios for over 5 years. But these longer-dated assets often present slower growth rates and lower margins, making them harder to sell. With these assets, sponsors are faced with tough decisions: ➡️ Inject more capital to revive these businesses ➡️ Sell at a discount, or ➡️ Roll them over into a continuation vehicle if there's unrealized value How will you navigate these challenges? Design🎨 + politics🏛️ + wine🍷 = ❤️ My friends and classmates Sara Werge Larsen, Solveig Davies Vittersø, Caroline Bock and I met up to see what happens when we combine these. ➡️ Result? Engagement, community, and of course lots of laughter and new questions to ponder. 🔀 One of my reasons for starting my masters in Service Systems Design in Copenhagen was to learn more about how I can use design to help transition society towards more sustainable futures. 🌀 To me that means to work with so-called «complexity» and «design» on more system(ic) levels, eg. when doing policy and governance development. I have learned a lot of theories and tools in university that could contribute to doing this, but my biggest resource so far has been connecting with like minded people in the service design community to actually discuss these topics. 🤔Top questions from the evening was: ❓What is service design? (No but really what is it??) ❓What do we want service design to be? ❓Can design be used as activism? ❓How can principles from service design be utilized when developing new policies, by people that are not designers? 👯 I’m so grateful to meet people that actually wants to hang out, drink wine, and at the same time engage in discussions that combine every day life and lived experiences with theoretical disciplinary topics and novel ways of practically applying them. Can’t wait for more! #servicedesign #servicesystemsdesign #systemicdesign #servicedesigncommunity #sustainablefutures #designactivism #governancedesign

❗ ❗ WARNING ❗ ❗ 3️⃣ reasons why you shouldn’t use AI in deal sourcing 1. Without AI, you can fully embrace the thrill of the treasure hunt as you go through endless rows of company data, desperately hoping to find the perfect deal. 2. Your neighbors will have a noisy time as you’ll have plenty of opportunities to belt out the karaoke classic “Don’t Stop Believin” while AI does the heavy lifting of finding all the relevant target companies. 3. Your IB and PE pals might start giving you the side-eye, wondering how you managed to steal the spotlight. They'll be green with envy, watching you effortlessly outshine everyone else with your secret weapon: AI. ⛔ Avoid AI at all costs! ⛔

Image of me burning career bridges with Big American social media companies because I dare hold them accountable for social irresponsibility. A few years back I wrote an article about why I’d never join TikTok because that’ll equate to me elevating foreign tech advancment to American innovation but the reality as I write this, is that TikTok is being targeted not because of its Chinese owners but because it accelerates democracy. China has the sovereignty to govern their country how it chooses so even if one would argue that China itself censors its people, it’s not applicable to how TikTok functions in the US. In actuality, not having forced obligation to giving in to Congressional pressure to uphold its political agenda through arbitrary censorship positions TikTok as a beacon for Democracy in the United States. So I’ve officially joined the platform, after years of willingly not doing so, and am excited to use it to create content that mobilizes accelerated digital civic advocacy that translates into real-time direct action and moves us towards a more perfect union. I walk with intention. If burning bridges means I can sit in good conscious at 70-years old because I did not stay mute in complicity to eroding Democracy then I’m a seasoned professional. American Constitutionalism allows for limited censorship but the thin line that separates good faith policy from arbitrary policy is being crossed not by TikTok but American companies. One more than the others but at this point the generalization hopefully helps all reflect on their policies. While security concerns are valid they are not isolated to TikTok. Data and privacy are not why TikTok is being forced out of American tech. I reject political violence committed against free Americans. Whether that’s perpetrated directly from a government or proxy institutions. Whatever China does is it’s own sovereignty. As long as it doesn’t replicate on US consumers what China governance is doesn’t matter.

🚀 I am excited to announce the release of PitchBook's report - Allocator Solutions: Private Market Opportunities Midyear Update! This follow-up to our LP-focused 2024 Allocator Outlook is now live in the Research Center and featured in our latest newsletter. 🌟 Here's a sneak peek into our findings: 🔍 US Economy: - Progress towards the Fed’s 2% inflation target, but no aggressive rate cuts yet. - Labor market normalization and strong economic growth continue. - Disinflationary trends have faded, limiting significant rate cuts by year-end. 📊 Portfolio Construction: - Higher interest rates make bonds and cash more attractive. - Risk premiums remain high, making riskier assets less appealing. - Institutional investors face new challenges in achieving 7-9% return targets. 💼 Private Markets: - Buyout: Elevated transaction multiples pose headwinds; aging NAV offers opportunities for secondaries funds. - VC: Reduced capital supply leads to more selective investments; stabilizing valuations with a tech stock rebound. - Private Credit: High base rates improve return outlook; compressed spreads and increasing competition. - Real Estate: Valuations correcting, with public REITs rebounding; potential rate cuts could boost the sector, but stale NAV in evergreen funds warrant caution. For a deeper dive into these insights, check out our full report! 📈 https://lnkd.in/gSFgF_pr #PrivateMarkets #InvestmentInsights #PortfolioManagement #ResearchUpdate 4o

The Laver Cup 2022 featuring Federer teaming with Nadal in his last game was touching, and Federer’s recent speech at Dartmouth College struck a chord with me once more. 1️⃣ Effortless is a myth Talent is more than innate ability; it includes mental strength. My years as a swimmer taught me lessons beyond technique, such as perseverance, discipline, patience, and self-belief, as Federer emphasised. For sports like swimming and others, rhythm is crucial as well. Understanding our flow and embracing the process help us navigate what comes next. 2️⃣ It’s only a point. It’s okay to feel down after a setback, but then move forward and pick ourselves up by working hard and smart to achieve greater success in the future. Crying out is definitely allowed. 3️⃣ Life is bigger than the court Living abroad is more complex than I've described to my friends. Homesickness deepens with age, but embracing change helps us see beyond our immediate surroundings. Federer’s volunteering in South Africa reminds us that there’s more to life than tennis rankings. Searching for life’s meaning often makes us overlook the answers within. The way to make our lives rewarding requires us to actively contribute to ouselves, our communities, and the world, no matter the scale of our impact. 🎾 Easter egg: watch until the end of the speech if you’re a fan of Federer! #RogerFederer #Lifelesson
