The Newbury Boston, a historic landmark situated in Boston's exclusive Back Bay area, is a sophisticated property that now offers luxurious accommodation to discerning guests. Established in 1927 as one of the first Ritz-Carlton hotels, this iconic building has recently undergone an extensive transformation to emerge as a symbol of elegance and modern luxury.

The major structural redesign and modernization project encompassed a shift of the main entrance from Arlington to Newbury Street, realigning the hotel's aesthetic to match its luxurious surroundings. This extensive project grappled with the challenges of updating a historic building to meet modern standards while preserving its unique features and charm.

Upon completion, the hotel now welcomes guests with a landscaped terrace plaza and features 286 elegantly designed rooms, including 90 suites, each with wood-burning fireplaces. The project introduced new structural updates, improved accessibility, and an open floor plan that maximizes natural light. The hotel now boasts enhanced guest amenities including a private library lounge, a European-style restaurant Contessa with a retractable glass roof, The Street Bar, and 16,000 square feet of event and meeting space. Additionally, two dramatically designed Presidential Suites have been added, providing a superior hospitality experience.

In line with our commitment to preserving the hotel's historic heritage, painstaking efforts were made to protect and incorporate several historic architectural elements such as the iconic cobalt blue chandeliers from the Ritz-Carlton era. These invaluable features were delicately preserved during construction and reinstalled, showcasing the fusion of modernity with history that defines The Newbury Boston.

This modernization project demonstrates Consigli's commitment to marrying contemporary demands with historic preservation, resulting in a property that is both functional and deeply connected to its rich history.

Established in 1929, the library presently accommodates more than 90,000 books, numerous archival collections, diverse student learning environments, common spaces, and a fully-equipped basement-level makerspace featuring 3D printers, sewing machines, a laser cutter, and a vinyl cutter.

To revitalize this historic library while promoting collaborative learning, a comprehensive renovation and structural overhaul was undertaken. This complex project incorporated the demolition and restructuring of the library's central core, addressing the challenges posed by the various ages of the building’s additions.

Post-renovation, the library is now replete with new M/E/P systems, has enhanced accessibility, and boasts an open floor plan that maximizes natural light. The rejuvenated space offers expanded classroom and group study areas, a large makerspace, a fresh café, additional student seating, and dedicated office and teaching spaces for the Tang Institute. A new climate-controlled archive room safeguards the library's prized collections. Throughout the building, updated finishes were incorporated while preserving the historic charm.

Notably, our project involved meticulous preservation work on several historical elements, including the Travis Mural and significant millwork in the Garver, Dole, and Freeman Rooms. These irreplaceable features were carefully removed and re-installed, ensuring their preservation during the construction process. This project demonstrates Consigli's commitment to balancing modern demands with historic preservation, creating a space that is both functional and deeply rooted in its rich history.

The Richard and Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center, a key component of the Middlesex Community College campus, offers an array of performance and teaching spaces that serve students as well as various sectors of the Lowell community. Initially a Boston & Maine Railroad Depot established in 1876, the center now hosts a 190-seat proscenium theatre, a 103-seat recital hall, a 900-square-foot dance studio, music practice room, and classrooms.

To breathe new life into this historic building while promoting artistic learning, a comprehensive renovation and structural redesign was embarked upon. This complex project involved the insertion of an innovative 'egg' structure in the building's core, addressing the challenges posed by blending modern functionality with historical preservation.

Post-renovation, the center now shines with a dynamic façade lighting, enhanced accessibility, and a layout that optimizes the usage of the space. The rejuvenated center features an expanded theatre, larger recital hall and dance studio, and added circulation space. A new, modern design illuminates the center's 'egg' form with programmable LED lighting that reflects the mood of the evening's performance.

Significantly, our project included meticulous preservation work on the deteriorating exterior masonry, breathing new life into the historic structure while adhering to modern code compliance. These invaluable features were carefully restored and reinforced, ensuring their preservation during the construction process. This project exhibits our commitment to reconciling contemporary demands with historic preservation, creating a space that is both functional and deeply rooted in its rich history.
