A successful PR/company partnership reaps wonderful results but knowing how a client has evolved is essential to telling those great stories. My peers across the country have some great thoughts to share in Forbes this week and here's my contribution: 1. To Emphasize A Client’s Forward-Thinking Nature In the B2B world, knowing how clients have evolved their business models, and why, is essential. With digital transformation, many B2B companies have shifted their business models and are looking at how to incorporate artificial intelligence. Subscription-based services and software as a service models continue to evolve. Public relations strategies need to help emphasize a client’s forward-thinking nature and how it benefits customers. - Kathleen Lucente, Red Fan Communications

Looking for a quick way to increase retention of your new donors? Send your new donor an email welcome series. Email welcome series could be many different lengths. Here's an example 4-part series: Email #1: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥. Show gratitude. Love on your donor. Tell him/her you care about them. Tell the donor they're making a big impact on someone's life. Email #2: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥. Tell the donor a story of impact. Show the donor that the gift he/she made is making a difference. Make the donor feel valued. Donors want to know their gift is changing a life. Video storytelling works wonders. Email #3: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥. Ask the donor to take a small action. I call this a "micro-action." When you get donors to do something small, they become more willing to do something bigger. This might be to share something in social media, make an introduction, send an encouraging note, or download a free ebook. Email #4: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥. If your new donor is a single gift donor, use this email to ask for a second gift. Many studies show that unless you get a second gift from a donor within the first 90 days, you're not likely to get a second gift. Appeal with a strong story in this email. After you complete these 4 emails, then move the donor into your typical email cadence.

Here’s how to make the most of the relationship when the agency's expertise is outside your comfort zone: 🔍 Build your foundational knowledge Check out industry trade pubs to read up on recent campaigns and case studies. This will build your foundational understanding of how others are succeeding in this new area. 📚 Set up a learning session Arrange a session with your agency where they can walk you through key concepts, recent plans, and success metrics. Think of it as onboarding for you, not just them. 📊 Define specific KPIs together Ask them to explain why the KPIs they’re recommending matter and how they align with your business goals. You’ll likely be deferring to them more in the early stages of the partnership, and that’s OK. 👥 Request training for your team Many agencies are happy to provide training sessions to help bridge clients’ knowledge gaps. It ensures everyone’s on the same page and makes for more informed, better clients! 📰 Stay informed on trends Subscribe to industry newsletters and attend relevant conferences and webinars (your agency can make recommendations here). Staying current on trends will help you better understand the context of the agency’s work. Venturing outside your comfort zone can be challenging, but your agency is there to help you succeed—so don’t be afraid to ask questions and rely on them as a partner!
