EDPMA survey reports that emergency medicine physician groups experience a 39% reduction in out-of-network reimbursement since the implementation of the No Surprises Act. EDPMA released new data today analyzing the impact and compliance issues of the No Surprises Act since its implementation in January 2022. Key findings include a 39% reduction in out-of-network reimbursement which suggests a significant decrease in commercial health plan reimbursement despite consistent demands on high-quality care and exacerbates existing workforce shortages and workplace strain. These dramatic declines in commercial reimbursement are occurring against the backdrop of Medicare fee schedule cuts and the lack of an inflation adjustment to the Medicare physician fee schedule. https://lnkd.in/gJizGS5Q

A new case study was published in NEJM Catalyst titled Emergency Department in Home (EDiH): A Novel Approach to Delivering Acute Care. The case study highlights the imbalance between the demand for emergency care and the available supply across the United States, leading to an urgent need for an alternative approach to address acute symptoms without relying solely on emergency departments. Eligible patients are triaged and cared for by in-home community paramedics within 2.5 hours of referral with medical direction by a virtual emergency medicine (EM) physician. During care delivery, patients receive ED-level services, including laboratory testing, imaging, and medications, in the home. Image acquisition is conducted in the patient’s home by a third-party service provider technician; generally, the study is completed within 4 hours after being ordered by the EM physician. This innovative model has the potential to reduce crowding in hospital EDs and reduce facility use. PONL invites nurse leaders, ranging from novice to expert, from various specialties, to share best practices across the care continuum. Rapid Roundtable Abstracts should reflect an implemented nursing leadership intervention that reflects an innovative approach, special project, evidence-based practice, or research study. A peer review panel will select abstract submissions that demonstrate excellence in nursing leadership and meet the guidelines set forth below. Selected applicants will give a 10-minute presentation on their project to attendees in a roundtable setting, with an additional 5 minutes allotted for Q&A (15 minutes total). Attendees will rotate among the Rapid Roundtable Presentations which will be repeated for multiple rotations. Primary presenters may have one additional colleague to present with them. Deadline to Submit Abstract: Abstracts must be submitted via the link below no later than Monday, June 10, 2024, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Submissions cannot be accepted after the deadline. The quality and patient safety movement of the early 21st century called for greater board of trustee involvement in improvement. However, too many health systems still don’t have the resources in place to effectively engage their boards around quality and safety measures.
