DISA Expands Thunderdome Zero Trust Program Deployment; Brian Hermann, Quoted. ExecutiveGov discusses the Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) expansion of the Thunderdome zero trust program. In 2023, the program was deployed to 15 sites and plans are underway to extend it to 60 more sites in 2024. Employing crowdsourcing allows AI to identify patterns and trends that might otherwise escape notice, while AI brings the added precision of machine analysis to the table. Business leaders can have immediate access to valuable ground-level perspectives, agencies like the DoD can enhance their operations to ensure safety and success in their ventures, and doctors worldwide can pool their observations to enhance patient care. The Defense Information Systems Agency, has just unveiled its strategic plan for the next five years, called DISA Next Strategy, aligns with the 2022 National Defense Strategy and aims to optimize resource allocation and decision-making within the United States Department of Defense. The plan focuses on simplifying the network globally, developing a resilient enterprise cloud environment, and integrating identity and access management capabilities. DISA's strategic imperatives include operating and securing the DISA portion of the DOD Information Network, supporting strategic command, control, and communications, optimizing the network, and operationalizing data. The plan also outlines eight ambitious goals to be achieved by 2030, such as having a globally accessible, software-defined, and impervious defense information system network, operating a resilient hybrid cloud environment, and modernizing national leadership command capabilities. The Pentagon's IT agency is introducing a new program, DOD Olympus, aimed at simplifying cloud solution development for defense organizations. This initiative will provide a comprehensive toolkit enabling agencies to deploy commercial cloud solutions efficiently, addressing common challenges such as network connectivity, security, and server operations that smaller IT teams might find daunting. DOD Olympus, part of the broader Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract, offers a service-agnostic platform that can integrate with existing tools like the Vulcan DevSecOps platform, allowing for seamless application deployment and resource management. This effort also ties in with DISA’s data centers to facilitate the creation of hybrid cloud environments.
