We’re proud to be members of AAAE and active participants in three of their committees. As part of our work on the Operations, Safety, Planning, and Emergency Management Committee, we have the opportunity to collaborate with leading airports around the world on several strategic priorities. Part of that involvement is sharing best practices and case studies on chem/bio aerosol threat detection. In addition, we’re also contributing to the development of programming for the upcoming Airport Operations & Technology Symposium on August 19-21 in San Jose, CA. Our work with Pittsburgh International Airport over the past year provides a great example, with BioFlyte technology enabling them to monitor the air for toxins, viruses and bacteria that could be used to attack critical infrastructure. As BioFlyte Market Segment Director Scott Pickett, CFI explains, “Early detection is the key to saving lives, protecting your infrastructure and allowing your operations and emergency response executives to make those real-time, intelligence-based decisions to mitigate that risk.” After a successful pilot, we are expanding our work with PIT and look forward to being a resource for other airports in the AAAE community in the future. #biothreat #AAAE #aviation #threatdetection #biosecurity

Our priorities for the new Government: #3 Air Cargo Problem: There has been a sudden and dramatic loss of slots for cargo-only flights at Heathrow and other airports in the Southeast.    Suitable capacity at airports outside the Southeast is insufficient and means more freight travelling greater distances by road.    Supply chains have been disrupted, exposing the UK’s strategic vulnerability and competitive weakness. Solution: Take urgent action to create a protected pool of slots for cargo-only flights in the national strategic interest, giving businesses the certainty they need.   Accelerate reform of how slots are allocated, with strengthened regulatory oversight by the Civil Aviation Authority.    Over the longer-term, deliver extra capacity through airspace modernization and supporting investment in new airport infrastructure. #aviation #groundhandling #aircargo

VOICE OF THE INDUSTRY: ADVOCATING FOR MODERNISATION OF AVIATION INFRASTRUCTURE ✈️ By Brandon Fried , Executive Director of the Airforwarders Association As the The Airforwarders Association , we are keenly aware of the multifaceted challenges facing the aviation and freight forwarding industry, including the critical issue of truck congestion in major airport cargo areas. This congestion not only impedes the efficient movement of goods but also undermines the competitiveness of US airports on the global stage. Truck congestion at airport cargo areas has been a persistent problem, hindering the timely processing of shipments and exacerbating delays in the supply chain. The detrimental impacts of this congestion ripple throughout the entire logistics ecosystem, affecting freight forwarders, shippers, carriers, and, ultimately, consumers. Recognising the urgency of this issue, three US Senators have backed the freight forwarding industry in obtaining a General Accountability Office (GAO) review to validate the extent of the problem. This bipartisan support underscores the significance of addressing truck congestion to ensure the smooth operation of air cargo facilities and enhance the competitiveness of US airports. The findings of the GAO review are expected to provide valuable insights into the root causes of truck congestion at airport cargo areas and inform targeted solutions to alleviate the problem. When television news stations discuss weather, they use the readings from some of the 3,300 public-use airports around the United States. Gale worked with the Mansfield Municipal Airport in Massachusetts on an airport safety project with an AWOS III System, providing real-time weather that provides aircraft operators, aircraft owners, and airport authorities to broadcast up-to-the-minute current weather. An AWOS III is an FAA-certified, ICAO/WMO (International Civil Aviation Organization / World Meteorological Organization) Compliant Automated Weather Observing System for meteorological reporting at airports. These systems include: Dual barometric pressure /altimeter sensors. Wind speed and direction. Temperature/relative humidity and dewpoint. Visibility/precipitation identification. Hail and ice pellet detection. Freezing rain detection. Fully automated report generation with manual augmentation. VHF ground-to-air broadcast. Voice reports via telephone. UHF data link, optical fiber, or hard-wired communication. AWOS Live real-time web display. This project was funded 100% by MassDOT Aeronautics, engineered by Gale Associates, and constructed by Cullen Electrical Contractors of Marshfield, MA.

#ICYMI: Airbus and ZeroAvia partnered with Canada's three busiest airports for hydrogen infrastructure feasibility study! ADM Aéroports de Montréal (YUL), Greater Toronto Airports Authority (YYZ) and Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR) are each partnering with Airbus and ZeroAvia to better understand hydrogen aircraft concepts and operations, supply, infrastructure and refuelling needs at airports, with the goal of developing the hydrogen aviation ecosystem across the country. Due to our natural resources, Canada is one of the most promising regions for hydrogen hubs and has great potential for hydrogen production from renewable energy sources such as hydroelectric power. This is the first time that a feasibility study of this magnitude has taken place in Canada to pioneer hydrogen for aviation. It reflects the partners' shared ambition to use their respective expertise to support the decarbonization of the aviation industry and to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
