Projects

  • 3D-Printable Prosthetic Arm: Evaluating Feasibility and Component Sustainability for use in Underdeveloped Countries

    -

Designed a project that involved fabrication of a 3D-printable prosthetic arm and its feasibility in underdeveloped countries. Analyzed EMG data using Arduino and Processing software. Leveraged an open sourced 3D design using open sourced CAD. Produced an affordable prototype for close to $350.

  • Topics In Biomechanics: The effects of scales on the material properties of Lutjanus campechanus skin

    -

Tested the material properties of Lutjanus campechanus skin. Assisted in the design and construction of material testing units. Calibrated material testing units using C programming and open sourced hardware (Arduino IDE).

  • The Runner's Achilles Heel

    -

Quantified the lengthening and shortening of the Achilles tendon during running to determine if
the applicability of the spring-mass model would be affected by scale. This project described and elaborated on the elastic properties of the Achilles tendon with respect to scaling in terms of height, leg length, and weight using ImageJ analysis.

  • Investigations in Molecular Cell Biology: Studying Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strains

    -

Studied the evolutionary conservation of genes in the metabolic pathways leading to methionine and cysteine synthesis. Identified Saccharomyces cerevisiae met deletion strains using
yeast colony PCR and other analytical techniques.

Honors & Awards

  • BC Legacy Grant

    Boston College

BC's Legacy Grants fund projects that impact the lives of others—from individuals to whole communities. Projects that inspire change, that serve others, and that exemplify what it means to be "men and women for others."

This grant was awarded in order to fund further research on highly functional but affordable prosthetic hands for those in developing countries or those in need.
