As many of my fellow automotive folks know, one of our partner companies, CDK Global, has experienced a significant systems shutdown. This incident has the potential to impact some of the UpdatePromise CEMS™ tools, given the integration we have with their infrastructure.   How This May Affect You At Your Dealership: ~DMS Data Access: Access to certain data from CDK may be temporarily limited or unavailable including pulling and pushing repair orders and appointment details. What Still Works: Despite the challenges posed by the CDK systems shutdown, several key functionalities remain fully operational within the UpdatePromise suite of service lane tools: ~Tablet Check-Ins: You can complete a check-in, however you will receive an error message regarding getting an RO number back from CDK. You can print the VCI form and provide to the customer as an initial repair authorization. ~Create and Send MPIs: You can continue to create and send Multi-Point Inspections (MPIs) without interruption, including our Service Pricing Data. Customer Communication: Our communication tools, including email and text messaging services, are functioning normally. ~Appointment Scheduling: You can still schedule and manage appointments within UpdatePromise, without necessarily syncing back to CDK. ~Reporting: Essential reporting functions are still accessible. Our team is in continuous communication with CDK Global to understand the extent of the issue and the expected resolution timeline. We are implementing additional monitoring to swiftly identify and address any arising issues where UpdatePromise may be impacted.   Please do not hesitate to reach out to our support team for any urgent concerns or if you experience any specific issues at helpdesk@corp.updatepromise.com. I see a LOT of Dealers out there trying to hire staff on their own. This is similar to when a customer thinks they can get more money trying to sell their car privately, instead of trading it in. Yes, you can be successful in either scenario, however when you add up advertising, reviewing tons of resumes who aren’t qualified (especially in the summer), and the additional time of screening qualified candidates, as well as actually getting them to show up and COMMIT, what have you gained? More importantly, how much TIME have you lost from your day to day operations of moving the needle? 💰 Well as the old saying goes, I wrote the book on it. But I kinda did YO! 📕 Outside of GM roles (where there are 50-100 candidates for ONE position) and a few other high level Manager positions, Facebook and LinkedIn ARE NOT going to find you the candidates you desire! Yes, there are exceptions but for this Recruiter who has found thousands of HIRES for Dealers, less than 0.5% have come from Facebook and LinkedIn. So if you want to keep trying to find those Techs, Advisors, Controllers, Salespeople etc on your own, I don’t believe in luck, but I wish you all the best with it! I recently watched a video by Adam Marburger where he talked about how the Golden Rule applies to Sales and how you treat customers. It got me thinking about something I frequently see in dealerships I've worked with in the past. Sales, service, and parts departments often operate as if they are separate businesses with major walls in place. It's important to remember that we're all here because of our customers. Not only are we here because of them, but our future benefit from those customers depends on how they are handled in all departments. Too often, we're shortsighted and only think about our individual department. It's imperative that we take time to try and help out other departments as if they are our own. How a customer is treated after the sale by the service and parts department impact their likelihood to come back and purchase another vehicle. How they are treated by the sales department impacts their likelihood to service with the dealership. In order for your department to reach its maximum potential, you need to help the other departments reach theirs. Ford Motor Company NEW "FREEDOM OF CHOICE" CAMPAIGN (should) DICTATE A DRAMATIC CHANGE IN DEALER SALES EXPERTISE! ...and that (should) mean pivoting to different direction for training! It might even mean REINVENTING the sales person/process to be more of a CUSTOMER ADVOCATE model. (perhaps even a transportation advocate)! Let's face it...up until now retail auto sales people have been more PEDDLER than CONSULTANT for the future vehicle owner. They've had "one" vehicle propulsion choice for a driving public already familiar with gas powered transportation...and the vehicle owners lifestyle was limited to that one form of transportation. But now, as Ford's new campaign states...GAS HYBRID OR (ALL) ELECTRIC...means that more and more shoppers will expect that dealer sales consultant to be more of a transportation consultant. and as the spot further states... "...because more important than the power you choose...it's what you choose to do with it!"
