Build, Buy or Partner? How to Decide Which is the Best Option for Your Growing Business

Selling new services is one of the few ways to grow revenue. Customer feedback can motivate service providers to add services, and changes in technology also require service providers to regularly offer new or updated services to their customers.
Building a new service may give the provider the best profit margin, but has costs in labor, hardware, time to market, and even opportunity that may be prohibitive. Buying a solution to offer it is the easiest option, but it is only worth the…Selling new services is one of the few ways to grow revenue. Building a new service may give the provider the best profit margin, but has costs in labor, hardware, time to market, and even opportunity that may be prohibitive. Buying a solution to offer it is the easiest option, but it is only worth the price if it is the right acquisition at the right price, and then it is managed well. Partnerships can bridge gaps and provide services impractical for others to provide, but they require careful negotiation and good products for a share of the proceeds. How do you decide whether to build, buy or partner to provide a new product?
