To beat a dead horse!?? Women had to fight for thier right to vote once, which is unimaginable for even my 7 YO daughter!!! I noticed the disparity in scientific research, scholarly publishing, & big tech & have devoted my time & resources in making these spaces more equitable and inclusive (& safe) for women. And, yes, we are making a difference! 2% representation in VC funding is shameful for us all as a society. Time to shift gears to start the drive to increase representation. WE CAN DO BETTER! Today one of the most meaningful and impactful things I have ever worked on was published. McKinsey’s report “From margins to mainstream: Asians and Pacific Islanders in Hollywood”, was published and as a core researcher on this report, I could not be more proud of the work we have done. I came to McKinsey to do two things: 1. Help entertainment and media companies solve their toughest problems 2. Learn to make the case for diversity in the media and entertainment industry For me, this work satisfies both ✊🏽 The report looks into the prevelant dissatisfaction API consumers have on Asian representation in Hollywood, even though API representation has taken some huge steps forward in recent years. It outlines some of the problems we uncovered and some steps that studios can take to improve satisfaction. This work came from the love, sweat, and tears of some of the most amazing and kind people I have ever worked with; and my experience working hand-in-hand with Ravali Thimmapuram to create the final storyline and arguments for this report is an experience that has marked my professional career. A project very dear to me, as it reflects our commitment to quality education for all children. · In public policy: - With WFP, we conceptualized an innovative results framework for the strengthening of national capacities, piloted through the school feeding program in Nigeria, moving a step further towards more structured global initiatives. - In Togo, working with the Ministry of Development was a precious opportunity, allowing us to promote evidence-based policies to effectively combat poverty. - Our ongoing partnership with the Millennium Challenge Account Senegal II (MCA-Senegal II) is promising, aiming to design and implement an innovative learning program for the Senegal Electricity Compact. · In women's empowerment - The development of the FAHAMEY program is an essential initiative for advancing menstrual hygiene management among young girls in Niger, an issue of crucial importance. This journey with IDinsight reinforces my daily belief that teamwork, united by shared visions and ambitions, can generate colossal impact and immeasurable success. I am especially grateful for all the teams that I have collaborated with and all our partners for their trust. A few outtakes from our latest report: - The re-emergence of President / COO searches in VC-backed mid stage companies signals a return to growth for many. For most of 2023 if they were hiring it was to bring in a head of sales to try to turn on growth, a CFO to try to save cash, a CEO to replace a founder. The growing number of President/COO searches in the market signals a new mindset. - Independent board directors are being sought much earlier in a company's life cycle - historically it had been post series B at the earliest, now we are seeing even earlier - The IPO pipeline continues to build. Large firms who were over-valued last year have now level-set and are very active in M&A / acqui-hiring to get ready for an IPO. - The above momentum includes starting to create board pipelines to build the IPO/public board. - Private equity is back; what was months of dating and getting to know for back-able CEO/CFOs last year is now multiple term sheets on deals agreed upon but not yet closed. - For established regulated public companies, there is a bias to lean on CEOs in similar companies today, or very recently. Those who moved to early stage companies in '21-'23 are sometimes being excluded as "too long" out of the regulated/large seat. - If you're a SaaS CEO/CFO, you are getting 8-10 calls a week. If you are SaaS adjacent and want those calls, expand your brand, reputation and networks - there is a major supply challenge. All of public policy involves tradeoffs between sometimes conflicting, noble goals: accountability, equity, expediency, transparency, quality, etc. I respect the opinions of thought leaders in this article who call for a measured approach for #BEAD. It's important to get it right. But the voices often missing in these debates are the people BEAD was built to serve. Who is advocating for the consumer? The people thirsting for #broadband relief in a digital desert aren't at the table where these timing decisions are made. This is not an academic exercise--this is a problem that needs solving yesterday. Which of the BEAD program steps are mission critical, and which of them need to be bulldozed over to get shovels in the ground and homes connected? This is the question people need to be asking. We cannot lose sight of our Polaris here. The whole point is to get people connected. November 2024: Hogan vs. Alsobrooks! Looking at the race using AI powered insights. In the fast-paced world of politics, understanding the undercurrents of voter sentiment is not just an art; it's a strategic necessity. When it comes to the MD Dem primary I want to know what lies beneath the surface of this heated race? (Beyond the non-stop commercials.....) At DDC, we've developed an advanced AI information tool that cuts through the noise, allowing us to examine the social conversations driving voter engagement. This isn't about polling; it's about grasping the values and interests that resonate with voters and shaping campaigns that align with those insights. The race presents a clear contrast: Trone, a multimillionaire businessman with a history of donations to Republicans and support for anti-BDS legislation, against Alsobrooks, a Black woman known for her dedication to working families and social justice. Trone's campaign spending and recent behavior have raised eyebrows, while Alsobrooks has amassed endorsements from various local leaders, organizations, and labor unions. Many Democrats in Maryland see Alsobrooks as the candidate who not only aligns more closely with their values but also stands a better chance against Republican incumbent Larry Hogan in the general election - even if polling disputes this. Given the depth of our analysis and the trends we're observing, I'm going to put a stake in the ground and call this for Angela Alsobrooks. This prediction isn't just about the numbers; it's about understanding where the heart of Maryland's Democratic voters lie using our insights development operation. Lets see where we net out tomorrow night and how our insights align (or diverge!) with exit polling. Here's the good news. Now at least we won't have to see the Trone v. Alsobrooks ads every 15 mins. Timely choice for the upcoming bank holiday weekend break! Alan Watkins and Iman Stratenus's book, #crowdocracy, has been on my bookshelf for some years and I'm excited to revisit . This insightful read charts a roadmap for the evolution of #democracy and explores how we can shape the future of our society through harnessing the wisdom of the crowd in collective decision-making. Federer’s latest slam Federer proved why “he’s the ONE” (due attribution to Matrix) for many of us with his Commencement address at Dartmouth college. If you had to see one life/leadership video (in addition to getting tips on your racquet grip and follow through) maybe this is the one. But beware it can be depressing. For one, Federer said that “effortless” is a myth and he had to work very hard to look so gifted on the court.. there goes all the excuse of blaming our gene pool for our failures. Then Federer talked about a point being just a point - once it’s done, move on - only if that was so simple - they didn’t equip the brain with a file delete option after extracting the learnings through gen AI - tough advice to follow. Then he says there’s life outside the court - many of us couldn’t find an alternative identity to our visiting cards and many current greats in many areas would give the impression that they only live for their vocation - there goes simple mantra of prioritising one aspect of life at the expense of others. Not to mention the depressing fact that Federer started his philanthropic foundation at the age of 22 well before he made more money than he could count - so another excuse shattered. And last just being super nice….that’s the most depressing one especially when “nice guys finish last” seems to have been hammered into our heads. However I suspect many like me are narcissists and this is one video that we will keep coming back to again and again. https://lnkd.in/gUkj8T9z

Climate Crisis from a Different Perspective 🌍 I'm deep into ancient Chinese philosophies and practices for many years now. While these philosophies may not directly address the climate crisis and sustainability as we understand them today, they do touch fundamental human behaviors that have heavily contributed to our current situation. I‘m afraid that relying on new technologies, regulations, and agreements each year may not be enough. Achieving a different future will demand the toughest action of all: changing ourselves. “That path begins when we ask ourselves what is it that we really need? The Buddha taught that the cause of the problem is greed and its solution is contentment. We like to think that we can save the Earth, but the Earth doesn’t need saving, it can take care of itself. We need to realise that the Earth is more than a resource for satisfying our desires. The scientists, engineers and technologists have done their job and we know what we need to do. We’re just not doing it.“

If you listen to The Prof G Pod: Office Hours and always wanted to know his take on the plant-based industry, read on 🌱🎙️🔮 Scott Galloway is a marketing professor at NYU Stern School of Business, but what he’s really known for is for being right when it comes to the business sector. He correctly accused WeWork of having an inflated valuation and questioned if an IPO would happen. He’s also the guy who predicted Amazon’s takeover of Whole Foods Market and said Twitter would be sold in 2022. Here’s what he said when asked what a #plantbasedmeat company’s branding and marketing should be to take a bigger chunk of the #meat market: 📉Cut your losses – you’re in survival mode He pointed to data that shows #plantbased beef is x2 as expensive as animal beef and #vegan chicken is x4 as high in cost, while investment in the #alternativeprotein category dipped by at least 44%. “I would bet somewhere between 50% and 80% of alternative meat companies go away in the next 24 months, because they assumed that it was going to be the next big thing – and it might be, but ‘next’ is the dangerous word. When is ‘next’ gonna happen?” 💰Don’t spend much on marketing, and focus on taste “I wouldn’t focus on the sustainability of it, I’d focus on the taste of it. I would not spend much money on marketing at all, and I’d keep my prices as low as I could. I would just try and extend my runway as long as possible and execute well, have really good relationships with my partners, do a lot of sampling a lot of earned media, try and write a lot, a lot of thought leadership.” 🍔Plant-based meat will be resurgent – but consolidated “I think this ecosystem is gonna lose a ton of players. The good news is that when the market comes back, it should be champagne and cocaine for alternative beef, whatever that would be. Because there’ll be just much fewer players. And if you can survive, you’re gonna come out the other end really, really robustly.” 📱Animal rights (and TikTok) are major drivers of plant-based meat “[It’s] just impossible for me to ignore the fact that these are mammals with big brains, very emotional, but subtle. They’re young, they give live birth, and want to be around other beings, and are probably at their core, you know, kind, wonderful beings. And when you have the unfortunate experience of learning anything about the industrial food production business, what we do to these animals is… ‘inhuman’ is the wrong word, because we would never treat humans this way. It’s just totally amoral… no, it’s not amoral, it’s immoral. And it’s starting to weigh on me for the first time that there’s more birds in captivity than birds in the wild because of chickens and the way they raise veal. We should hope there’s not a hell.
