It has been said that the employees with the highest value are those who do the necessary work with the least drama. I love the simplicity in that. It has been said that the employees with the highest value are those who do the necessary work with the least drama. I love the simplicity in that. Managing schedules and creating a work-life balance can be hard for most of us but creating an atmosphere where we are valued isn't impossible but may require you to shift your focus.

Here are a few ways you can be a truly valued team member without becoming exhausted:
    Be Enthusiastic
People who walk into work and lighten the room are considered very valuable. These are the people who's enthusiasm help coworkers embrace challenges. Walking in with a lightness about you and encouraging others leads to indispensability.

    Don't Focus on Credit
Management ranks employees who solely focus on "getting credit" lower when it comes to being valued. Shifting focus to doing your best job and not obsessing over getting an award for your work as team players. Team payers focus on getting the job done and not on making sure the entire office notices that they completed their task.

    Empower Your Team
You don't have to be a manager to empower your team. Having friendly people skills and sets you apart from teammates. Management highly values when a member of their team can diffuse a situation without letting it escalate. Employees who help those who may be quieter speak up in meetings and mediate so that quieter team members begin contributing are indispensable.

Staying Up on Trends and Changes
With shifts happening every 30 days in every industry, team members who stay on top of the latest news and trends, separate themselves from the rest. Management sees this s a personal commitment to the company's success.

Overcome the “Nevers” That were spoken into you

Overcome the “Nevers” That were spoken into you

When I spoke to Paul Gigliotti on his 45 minute Bay Area commute to his office in downtown Sacramento at West Coast Mortgage Group, I asked him who inspired him to be the leader he is today.

“My dad always emphasized the basics; pay attention, be a leader and always continue learning... Things like consistency were important to my father and he knew that family and togetherness meant happiness and success.”

Question about Paul’s life and career found answers that were intertwined with wise words his father taught him, admiration for his husband Aaron and the purest form of love for their son Cooper. If there were two takeaways about Paul during our 45 minute conversation, it was that he pays homage to those he respects and that working together, the comradery element, fuels his world. You should always believe in yourself and know that you can achieve what you want

Paul Gigliotti is the Vice President of West Coast Mortgage Group, a Mortgage Banking/Wholesale Brokerage that is licensed in seven states. Finding creative new ways to organize and push his team only scratch the surface when it comes to Paul’s professional abilities. His work ethic stems from a background of working through summer vacations at a young age to brushing elbows with executives at tech giant Cisco’s offices.

Paul’s leadership vision is focused on systemized organization and better training his team. Through consistently demonstrating how simpler and well done always sets the best standard, Paul has impacted his team, inspiring a 75% increase in transactions year-over-year for WCMTG from 2014 to 2016.
Business is a cycle, regardless if you are talking about an organization or an individual. The cycle is: you learn, you grow you expand. You learn you grow, you expand. Once that cycle stops the circle is broken and it has to be reconnected or reinvented.

  • "Giving Better Feedback."

    Paul Gigliotti

“Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill," said Buddha. Being a leader means you have a responsibility to be open to both giving and receiving feedback, and through authenticity and openness to working on your own feedback, you demonstrate to your team that you are truly invested in being the best leader you can be. But how do you know if we're making a positive impact with our feedback?

Pixar Co-Founder and President Ed Catmull reveals Pixar’s standard for good feedback. “Good feedback says what is wrong, what is missing, what isn’t clear, what makes no sense. Good feedback is offered at a timely moment, not too late to fix the problem. Good feedback doesn’t make demands; it doesn’t even have to include a proposed fix . . . . Most of all, though, good feedback is specific.”
Here are some areas I have focused on to improve my feedback and may be helpful for you as well.

Promote Feedback By Asking For It
Promote an accountable team, open to feedback by being the example of how that could possibly look. Tell you team once a week to approach you with something you or the office could do better. Then follow up with improvements sparked from their suggestions. Feedback can lead to greatness if you're open to it. You also have to create consistency and boundaries. Make sure your team understands office etiquette, and they trust that you will keep the team in a respectful culture. Lead by example.

We have seen a great start to 2017 as the housing market continues to grow this year at roughly the same rate as it did in 2016. Real estate and investment experts continue to forecast a strong year ahead for the US housing market in 2017.

Jonathon Smoke, Chief Economist for Realtor.com released an article stating some bold predictions. “Bold prediction No. 1: Mortgage rates will stay put—for now.” He went on to outline how the Fed announced that it wouldn’t be raising short-term interest rates, and how we probably won’t see any movement until there are clear data points showing more significant growth and inflation in 2017.

Bloomberg reported late in February that despite signs that inflation is firming, the recent behavior of the core-PCE index doesn’t suggest inflation is a problem. When the members of the Fed sit down for their March conclave, they will likely conclude that they remain ahead of the curve on inflation and can take a pass on raising rates. They will prefer to squeeze additional gains from the labor market before acting again to tighten policy. The Fed will take note that they have plenty of time to raise rates later in the year. Most importantly, if data strengthens further and prompts the Fed to pull forward a hike to March or May, markets should reset policy expectations to a baseline of three hikes with an option on a fourth. Although interest rates have taken a sharp increase since November, it is important to remember that interest rates still remain at a 20-year low.

Here are five trends that will shape how we do business in 2017:

Remote Employees Training – Since meetings can be done over videoconference platforms, and signing documents is even moving online via email, many positions only require access to the computer and Internet. Talented team members can be hired for positions no matter where they live, and can even save company overhead having them work from home. Having a training program in place that understands the opportunities and limitations of remote team members will set your company ahead of the pack.

Video Promotion (Example: FB Live) – Most businesses are finding fun and creative ways to go “Live” online or stream meetings so that remote members can participate and build camaraderie. Videos range from client testimonials, behind-the-scenes footage to product promotions and can go so much further. It has never been easier to utilize video solutions and streamlined editing platforms to create and build fun content.

Improved Automation with Bots – If the word “Bot” catches you off guard, that’s okay it threw me too when I first heard it… Most of us are more familiar with these Bots then we think as Siri, Alexa and Cortana are already household names. These communication bots will improve office collaboration and are creative tools that many people are already using. Team members will be able to use bots to retrieve a document or search data in real-time saving time and money.

Embracing Millennials Instead of Rejecting Them – Millennials don't work in the same way that baby boomers do and this creates a clash within the workforce. Millenials focus more on creative problem solving and are constantly looking for ways to improve the processes.

We recently met Aisha Browe through a friend and quickly built a well-founded trust in everything she had to offer us. In short, we were looking to refinance our home to improve our rate. She was punctual, educated us beyond the questions we asked, was incredibly patient with our naive understanding of the refinance process and hustled to get us the best rate she could find (which we verified when we went back to get estimates from our original loan originator and a couple others). She's more than our source for incredible loan rates, she's now a friend. Thanks Aisha!
