In May, e2open's Road Freight Market Index showed tight truck capacities from Mother's Day and produce demands. However, reefer and van tender acceptance remained above 90% for 15 months, and spot rates fell 2%. Since this week is a short week and we @Duos are hoping to have a very exciting announcement soon, I am going to make daily posts with respect to the sales profession.  Personally, I was able to move from an operations and systems mainframe technical role to a sales role in 1989.  Was not overly difficult to make the transition, but not easy either.  Took a lot of commitment. I quickly received feed-back from my customers and prospective customers that they appreciated my style and approach.  Having a technical background, I could speak to them in their language and had more of a consultative approach than a true-sales methodology.  I also did things to (try to) set myself apart; I could use/demo the products, could install them, fix bad JCL and always wrote my home number and later my cell # on their marker boards.  Never was it abused, but when they needed me, I was always there. So, what’s the point of this?  Well, one fellow took a chance on me, and 3 others helped me get acclimated along the way.  No matter your style or approach, a sales professional always needs to be comfortable and confident in their approach.  In 2005, I bought a home entertainment system.  It was eventually, a great experience; I chronicled it here. I have often been asked how to make the transition to sales, so this article serves as that.  I’ve been paying forward the kindness and courtesy shown to me by those 4 folks at Boole & Babbage on May 5th, 1989.  They didn’t have to help me, but they did…. To really grow their business, carrier reps need to understand their company’s current account activity: Which accounts are growing? Which are declining? Which lanes have potential for volume? What’s in the pipeline? A great way to get that info is just by having conversations with customer-facing reps. Get out there and talk to some account managers today. #freight #3pl #transportation
