You need to assess team building skills in a job interview. What’s the best way to do it?
The interviewer can simply ask in STAR type format; "Tell me about a time that you had a conflict on your team and how you resolved it." Look for the candidate to then provide a situation, the task in front of the team, the action or actions this individual took and the end results. Team building and team play is not easily assessed with general answers, if you have not worked with or had this individual work for you, already. Asking for actual examples helps to determine if the person has involved themselves, in a positive fashion, in team building. If the interviewer is aware of a potential or existing problem on the team with the open position, another approach is to ask, "How would you handle this situation. And ask the references!

The Resignation
multiple web sites and staffing journals, Fordyce Letter
You have just cleared the hurdles and obstacles of the interview process, and have secured the offer that you were hoping for. Just as you breathe a sigh of relief because the interview process is all over, you realize that you have to face what could be the toughest part of the interview process – your resignation. If you truly hate your current job and despise your current boss, resigning should be easy. But, if you have been with your company for some time, you may now be feeling a sense…

If you truly hate your current job and despise your current boss, resigning should be easy. But, if you have been with your company for some time, you may now be feeling a sense of loyalty. Or, you may be friends with your boss, and now dread having to tell a friend that you quit.

If you are good at what you do and you receive another job offer, there’s a very good chance that you are going to be on the receiving end of a counter offer. It’s flattering to be wanted! But this flattery may get you nowhere. So take a deep breath, and beware what lies behind that tempting counteroffer. As a twenty three year veteran of the recruiting and staffing industry, I can speak to the often ill effects that come from accepting a counter offer.

The Ethics of Accepting a Job Offer
Fordyce Letter, numerous industry web sites
I am a twenty three year veteran of the sales recruiting industry, and am still amazed when a candidate accepts an offer of employment, and then calls the employer the night before the start date and informs them that they will not be starting because they accepted another offer of employment. I have been on the receiving end of such calls, and have seen the damage and complications this causes for the hiring manager.
