Binge viewing, social TV, dual-screening, automatic content recognition, mobility and other new features are all coming together to disrupt the very foundations upon which the television industry is built. While PayTV still fills a large proportion of a paying consumer’s entertainment time, increasingly the service is viewed through a tablet or smartphone. On these screens, TV Everywhere stands side-by-side with YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and even Candy Crush. For operators, content providers, advertisers and web natives, the path to the viewer has never been as indistinct, and engagement as difficult to maintain as it is today.
