Getting it Right from the Start
We're continuing to see the aftermath effects of the recent bombshell investigative piece by the LA Times and WeedWeek that found legal cannabis products were contaminated with harmful pesticides. Now we learn that the California Department of Cannabis Control has issued a recall for some THC oil vape cartridges sold in California due to dangerous levels of the pesticide chlorfenapyr. This leads us back to what we've been advoating. Lab testing alone doesn't guarantee safe cannabis. A much broader, multi-pronged approach is needed to address the issue of toxic contamination and is crucial to reducing harm. These include: Stricter limits on product THC levels, improved lab quality checks, field and factory inspections, and more aggressive regulatory action when findings like these occur. Read Newsweek article for more: https://lnkd.in/gn3_74Gh #THC #CannabisPolicy #Cannabis #Marijuana #Recall #Chlorfenapyr

As we approach the end of the week, the urgency to protect the future of hemp in California remains high. Recent amendments to AB 2223 continue to pose a severe threat to our thriving hemp industry. If passed, these amendments would enforce restrictive THC potency limits, potentially capping hemp products at 0.25mg total THC per serving or 1mg total THC per package. Such stringent regulations could dismantle the full spectrum hemp industry, jeopardizing the progress we've fought so hard to achieve since the passage of AB 45. But fear not, because we have the power to make a difference. Let's come together once again to urge our legislators to oppose these harmful THC potency limits. Don't wait until it's too late. Take action today and ensure our voices are heard. Visit the link below to submit your letter and join the fight to protect California's hemp industry. https://lnkd.in/d4PjhSmw

I see some confusion in the Cannabis industry about the difference between LIVE RESIN Vs. LIVE ROSIN. Allow me to explain. Let's start with the basics. Both live resin and live rosin are types of cannabis concentrates that are made using fresh, frozen uncured cannabis plants. Live resin is made by freezing freshly harvested cannabis plants and then extracting the resin using a solvent like butane. The result is a highly potent and flavorful concentrate that's often used in vapes and dab rigs. On the other hand, live rosin (The highest grade oil available) is made by separating the trichomes from the fresh frozen cannabis via water and ice. The trichomes are collected via mesh bags and then dried out. Once dried, the "Ice Water Hash" is placed into another mesh bag to be pressed under high pressure and heat. The end result is a sticky, sap-like substance that's also highly potent and flavorful. (Curtis Ducart) So, to put it in simpler terms, live resin is concentrated made with solvents, while live rosin is like an all-natural concentrate made with just heat and pressure. In layman's terms, Live resin is like the fancy, high-tech way of making a cannabis concentrate, while live rosin is like the old-school, artisanal way of doing it. I hope this helps. Among cannabis edibles, live resin gummies are gaining popularity for their robust terpene profiles, entourage effects, and therapeutic potential. Live resin, extracted from flash-frozen cannabis plants, offers a more flavorful and aromatic experience compared to traditional concentrates. These gummies contain a broad spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes, providing intense and complex effects. Users can expect enhanced therapeutic benefits, pain relief, mood regulation, and potential neuroprotective effects. Live resin gummies offer a premium experience with a holistic approach. #liveresin #mellowfellow https://lnkd.in/eE8ixHzS

🚨 Insightful DEA Report: Illicit marijuana flowers average a THC potency of 16%. 🌿💨 This statistic underscores a significant advantage of purchasing from licensed dispensaries—quality and safety. Unlike the unregulated market, dispensaries offer products that are tested, compliant, and consistent in their THC content. This not only ensures a safer consumer experience but also supports the legal cannabis industry committed to high standards. Why risk the unknown? Choose quality, safety, and reliability every time with dispensary-bought cannabis. Let's advocate for more informed consumer choices and support regulations that emphasize these benefits. Stay informed and choose wisely. #CannabisIndustry #ConsumerSafety #DispensaryQuality #THCPotency #RegulatedCannabis

Oregon Hemp Alert: New Vendor License Requirement Takes Impact July 1 https://lnkd.in/gJyuGbWr <a href=""> - New Oregon hemp guidelines take impact subsequent week. As of Monday, July 1, 2024, all hemp retailers or wholesalers who retailer, switch or promote industrial hemp or hemp objects for resale to a different particular person should have a hemp vendor license from the Oregon Division of Agriculture (ODA). The seller license charge is $100 yearly and is legitimate from July 1 to June 30. Yow will discover the appliance right here. If in case you have something to do with the Oregon hemp commerce, whether or not domestically or from out-of-state, please learn this weblog put up fastidiously. The seller license requirement could be very broad and is definite to catch many individuals off guard. The place did these new hemp guidelines come from? The brand new guidelines come up from Home Invoice 4121, which Governor Tina Kotek signed into legislation on March 20, 2024. That legislation lined each marijuana and hemp concerns. I annotated HB 4121 in my legislative preview right here and my session wrap-up right here. I’d encourage anybody within the background of this new hemp vendor licensure program to learn these posts. Following the session, ODA undertook a fast rulemaking spherical, and adopted OAR 603-048-0175 on June 5. It’s a brief guidelines part, and price a learn as effectively. You may as well discover an FAQ type abstract from ODA right here. Does the brand new hemp vendor license apply to out-of-state sellers? Sure! That is one thing uncommon in regards to the new program, which I highlighted again in February and March. I’m not conscious of some other state that has taken an identical strategy, and I consider it would shock lots of people. That mentioned, the rule and the ODA FAQ are clear that each native and out-of-state wholesalers and retailers require a hemp vendor license. The requirement additionally applies to all on-line distributors that promote into, or out of, Oregon. Who does NOT want a hemp vendor license? There are a handful of exceptions to the licensure requirement, pursuant to OAR 603-048-0175(1). These embody: Brokers. Or, as offered by OAR 603-048-0175(1)(a), an individual who “solely facilitates the sale or switch by connecting patrons and sellers and the particular person doesn’t retailer the economic hemp or hemp objects at any time.” Shippers. Or, as offered by OAR 603-048-0175(1)(d), an individual who “solely transports hemp or hemp objects and doesn’t retailer [them] at any time apart from as essential for transportation or supply.” Licensed growers, handlers, or agricultural hemp seed producers, offered the licensee “first notifies [ODA] of the situation the place the economic hemp objects are saved, transferred or bought within the license software, or on one other type offered by...

The Numerator study, "Budding Behaviors: Insights into the Modern Cannabis Consumer," highlights unique shopping patterns among THC users in the U.S., revealing that they are more likely to use delivery services like DoorDash and Uber Eats compared to non-users. Notably, THC users are predominantly from younger generations (Gen Z and millennials), tend to have lower to middle incomes, and often use cannabis for managing stress and anxiety. The report also shows that THC users typically consume products such as edibles, flowers, and vape cartridges, and they are frequent visitors to in-person dispensaries. Interestingly, a significant portion of THC users report decreasing their alcohol consumption since starting cannabis use, although they still spend a notable portion of their grocery budget on alcohol. Overall, the study provides a detailed look into the demographic and behavioral trends of cannabis consumers, emphasizing their specific preferences and spending habits in the market. To dive deeper into this emerging category and better understand the distinct behaviors and preferences of its consumers, be sure to check out the full article attached here. Happy learning! Such a great event! Really valuable insights on the technologies that will drive retail efficiencies in cannabis. I believe it's so important for us as brands to understand the challenges faced at the retail level. Last nights discussion, specifically in regards to supply chain management has me thinking how the brand + retailer relationship can become more effective, and what technologies will bridge the gaps! I think back to my retail days, and irresponsible purchasing habits that likely did a disservice to my customers, brand partners, AND finance teams. Being OOS frustrates your customers, shifting them to another product disrespects the brand that likely invested $$'s to earn that customer, and over compensating for that OOS challenges your finance team. The industry has come so far, but these are still some of our biggest challenges as a brand, with very little control of our shelf space and retailer stocking habits. I'm curious to see what the technological future holds, and also wonder how PAX can assist our retail partners NOW to provide data driven insights, and relieve any operational burdens in supply chain management. When we work together to minimize these bottlenecks ... the brand, retailer, and CUSTOMERS win. Thank you Dutchie!

Urgent Action Needed: Support AB 2223 with Key Amendments to Protect California's Kids! We need your immediate help to protect California's children from dangerous hemp products. AB 2223 is a critical piece of legislation that seeks to address the alarming rise of highly intoxicating hemp products that are widely available to our youth. For it to be more effective, amendments are still needed. Tell Your Representative In the State Senate To Support AB 2223 if Amended! https://lnkd.in/gx8NDnpc Currently, both legal and illegal intoxicating hemp products: 1. Have no age restrictions to purchase. 2. May contain THC levels exceeding the legal limits for cannabis edibles. 3. Are sold at gas stations, supermarkets, liquor stores, smoke/vape shops, and online. 4. Feature enticing packaging with bright colors and flavors appealing to youth. 5. Can contain highly potent, synthesized versions of THC with unknown safety profiles. This has resulted in a shocking 3,000% increase in child poisonings nationally and a rise in students being stoned at school. AB 2223 now limits intoxicating hemp by setting a 1 mg THC per package limit, which would be tremendous progress , and it prohibits the intoxicating fake versions of natural THC being synthesized by the hemp industry, like delta-8. But more is needed to ensure our children's safety. We support AB 2223, especially if it includes the following amendments: 1. Require the California Department of Public Health to set a THC limit of 0.5 mg per package. 2. Permanently prohibit inhaled hemp products. 3. Prevent untaxed, intoxicating and weakly regulated hemp products from entering cannabis stores. 4. Set a minimum purchase age of 21 for any industrial hemp product. Please join us in supporting AB 2223 with these critical amendments. https://lnkd.in/gx8NDnpc Thank you! Your voice can make a difference in safeguarding our children and communities. #IntoxicatingHemp #YouthHealth #PublicHealth #Cannabis

The cannabis industry celebrates our purpose 🍃 We’re all drawn to the cannabis industry for different reasons. But it’s our ‘why’ that keeps us persevering. For Megan Prusynski, a Marketing Director from California, it’s about her love for the plant and the cannabis community. Hear directly from Megan below: WHAT’S YOUR PERSONAL “WHY” (YOUR PASSION) FOR WORKING IN CANNABIS? Love of the plant and the people she brings together. The cannabis community, especially in Northern California, is supportive, resilient, inspiring, and creative. As we struggle together, we still know how to have a good time. The industry is a roller coaster, but it’s the collaborations and community that keep me sticking it out. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN CANNABIS? I wouldn’t recommend getting into cannabis unless you have a personal connection to the plant that helps you stick to it when the going gets tough. This industry is not for the faint of heart; you may have to take a pay cut and work without benefits. But if you’re willing to invest in it, the plant provides. HOW HAS WORKING IN THE INDUSTRY IMPACTED YOUR CANNABIS USE? YOUR PERCEPTION OF THE PLANT? I have slowly migrated from mostly flower smoking to vaping concentrates and enjoying edibles & drinks. There is so much variety in the products and consumption methods available now, which I love! I really love mixing up different cannabinoid ratios. I have only fallen more in love with the plant over the years, and the more I learn, the more I am fascinated and want to share cannabis with the world. It is truly one of the most amazing forms of life on earth. HOW DO YOU SEE CANNABIS IMPACTING YOUR COMMUNITY? Cannabis has a long history here and has been a way for many people to survive. It’s also brought people together and offered economic opportunities. And now it brings in a ton of tax money for the city, county, and state, so it definitely makes an impact there, but I don’t think most locals truly understand how difficult it is in this industry, and we still have to deal with some stigma and NIMBYism. #thatsmywhy #cannabiscareers
