  • Compressed Gas Energy Storage System

    Issued US 9243585

Embodiments relate generally to energy storage systems, and in particular to energy storage systems using compressed gas as an energy storage medium. In various embodiments, a compressed gas storage system may include a plurality of stages to convert energy into compressed gas for storage, and then to recover that stored energy by gas expansion. In certain embodiments, a stage may comprise a reversible compressor/expander having a reciprocating piston. Pump designs for introducing liquid for…

Gas flow valves featuring shroud and/or curtain portions, are also described.

  • Automotive Plastic Injection Moldings

    -

Design of an injection molded plastic air filter box for the accessory division of a major OEM. This was a performance accessory designed for increased air flow over the stock part. It was used as a stand alone assembly and as part of a supercharger kit. A different location had to be selected for the assembly as the supercharger made the original difficult to use. Physical testing on a flow bench was done with quickly produced concept prototypes to confirm the flow peformance. The parts were…

The parts were modeled fully drafted with consideration for required slides. Closure clips, a plastic grill, a rubber molded tube, and various sheet metal brackets were also designed. This assembly was for sale from Toyota dealers for many years.

  • Lab Battery Test Cell

    -

A battery research company contracted with us to design a lab battery cell. This was a lithium metal battery. The client presented an initial lay out. I took that initial lay out and turned it in to a workable design with consideration for chemical compatibility, sealing, and ease of assembly. Due to confidentiality the assembly can not be shown.

  • Single Cylinder Opposed Piston Engine Crankcase Casting

    -

I worked as part of the design team on a small displacement single cylinder opposed piston engine for the Asian market. This was done for Pinnacle Engines, a Bay Area start up. I designed one half of the primary crankcase (high pressure die casting) and supervised the engineer that designed the other half. We worked with the Pinnacle Engines design team and engineers from Greaves Cotton in India. This was accomplished in a very short time frame, about three and a haIf months. I also designed…

I also designed bracketry to adapt the engine to the dyno, redesigned an off the shelf timing chain tensioner to provide more load, and designed a timing cover with water pump to convert the engine to water cooling.
