What are the best ways for teachers to gain experience before changing careers?
Well, I think the first step is getting clear about why a career change is desired. The question begs posing, "Experience in what?" A possible new career path? I concur with others who have recommended volunteering in an organization that aligns with both the reason for seeking a change and the nature of the desired new direction. One can gain knowledge via online study, cracking open relevant books, attending seminars, but, as Einstein wisely noted, "Any fool can know, the point is to understand." I'm of the school that believes that understanding and experience require doing, not just knowing. Most professionals are happy to answer questions when a curious person asks them about their work. So ask! Show your aptitude for learning.
