“Nate wants to make you the best version of yourself. I am fortunate enough to have discovered this firsthand. As my direct manager, I benefited both from his guidance of my own creative work as well as his leadership of our team of designers and illustrators. I admire his growth mindset and its impact on both areas. His curiosity is a foundational trait of how he leads: there is always something to be learned if you’re just willing to ask questions. He opened our team meetings by posing a new one each week aimed at getting us to know each other better — even though, in some cases, we may have worked together for years. It was a great feature that brought us closer together as collaborators. And then by further inquiring what our workload looked like each week, it made it easier for us to ask for help — and to offer it to each other — completely expanding our ability to support in new ways. Strong leadership makes a good team even better. As an individual contributor, I perceived Nate’s respect for my opinion. When he reviewed my design, he would often start our discussion simply: “Do you like it?” This unassuming query made me feel like he knew there was intent behind my decisions, and he respected that enough to ask me to share it. I valued his insightful feedback, and he made me a better designer. We developed a partnership that I valued. Any opportunity to work with Nate would be an opportunity worth taking. ”
