“Maria is an inspiration. She deeply cares about all aspects of whatever she puts her energy towards: the people, the value, the outcomes, the processes involved. She is a motivational, positive, influential leader who ensures each individual knows their perspectives were heard, considered, and integrated. She has deep values that ground her work towards achieving and representing the best interests of all involved parties. From the first interaction I had with her, she became a mentor, and a high bar I could aspire to. She makes time for what matters, and managers her time effectively to achieve what can seem impossible. I would be thrilled to work with Maria, knowing that whatever she chooses to commit to and pursue, she will be a leader for others to aspire to.”

Mobilized a cross-sector task force of nonprofits, chambers of commerce, corporate, and government agencies at national, state and county levels, provided webinars, resources and services to over 500 people. This effort helped raise visibility regarding the challenges of Asian American small businesses. It also demonstrated the commitment and ability of the community to rally around Asian American small businesses.
A couple primary partners we collaborated with were the Small Business Administration and the Illinois Small Business Development Center. They saw the need and that the program as an effective advocacy model for the community. This resulted in an Illinois Small Business Development Center being created for the Asian American community, managed by one of our collaborating partners, the Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA). The new Small Business Development Center at CMAA was able to quickly get up to speed using the operating model and plan I helped develop as a launching point.
As a direct result of our effort, we now have a sustainable and effective advocacy center for Asian American Small Businesses in Illinois. -

If you’re a manager of people that has ever thought “how do I tap into the entrepreneurial spirit within the people on my team,” then this episode is for you as well.
On this episode, I link up with Maria Odiamar Racho, an Organizational Effectiveness Practice Lead at Allstate Corporation, where she specializes in culture, strategy, change, complex systems, and networks. She is the founder of two Employee Resource Groups, the Allstate Asian American Network (3AN), and Intrapreneurs@Allstate (I@A).
During our conversation we discuss Intrapreneurs. The intrapreneur, just like the entrepreneur of a small business, is the driving force behind their idea and vision, as well as a source of continuous innovation for organizations. Maria shares a behind the scenes look at the Allstate journey.
