“I have had the great pleasure of working with Monika annual on a variety of projects involving marketing and public relations campaigns, event coordination, and project management in the hospitality and tourism industry. She communicates quickly and clearly with great attention to detail. Her organization of assets for complex projects and her positive attitude throughout each project make tight deadlines and last-minute changes easier for everyone involved. She is a true leader in her industry, an outstanding counterpart and a valuable asset to any team.”

How can you network effectively for long-term success?
Ask for feedback. If you meet someone at a networking event, and then later have an opportunity to have a second meeting, ask them what they learned about you from the initial introduction, what made them want to meet again. This will give you great insight, did they understand your pitch / services, did they enjoy your humor or have something in common. It helps you learn about yourself and where you can improve or tweak things for the next networking event.

How can you network effectively for long-term success?
Many times, people think they need to be networking with others that are doing the same exact thing as them. It's the diverse rooms of connections that provide the most fruitful opportunities. Joining a group that offers diverse networking opportunities such as a Chamber of Commerce is a good way to meet professionals from all walks of life, in all different levels of their careers.

How can you network effectively for long-term success?
1 meeting = 2 calendar blocks. When you are scheduling a meeting in your calendar, create a time block within 24 hours to follow up on the meeting(s). Creating a time block in advance in your calendar to follow up on a meeting gives you time to deliver on whatever it is you may have committed to, perhaps making a connecting, sending more information etc. This also helps from delaying your response because you were buried with work or more meetings.

How can you develop leadership skills in team members who are not in formal leadership roles?
Know your people. Train your leaders to know their people. This helps cut through the noise. There will always be those in an organization that are louder, that are transparent in their desire to move up, those that have their hands up first. Take a moment and identify the quiet leaders, the ones that the rest of the team seek out for feedback or guidance. Sometimes the best leaders aren't the most outspoken. Find them, offer them an opportunity to contribute a solution or idea whether it be through a one-on-one meeting, or a phone call. It might be the nudge they need to recognize that they have the ability to be a leader as well.

Feed 1000 is held each December at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Thousands of RI citizens in need are invited and attendees are provided with a hot nourishing meal, warm jackets and holiday gifts, all for free. Many of the recipients come from local homeless shelters or low-income housing, and sadly, many of those in attendance are children. Beyond the meals and gifts, the overarching goal of the Feed 1000 event is to provide a day of holiday cheer in what can be a difficult season for…
