Delivered food to handicapped/ elderly/ or otherwise in need individuals about every six weeks through the company I worked for (Element K). I found it very rewarding as well as grounding. So many people have helped me reach my goals throughout my life, and it really felt good to give back. Once I get settled in Austin I plan to seek out volunteer opportunities here.

I fulfilled a nearly life-long dream by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity! What an awesome experience. I met beautiful people from Sudan and Morocco, cleaned up the inside of the house, made and marked up measurements, used electric shears to cut beam-wrap material, got on a ladder and nailed it up, cut 2x4s with the electric saw, and enjoyed every bit of it!

Back-to-School is an important community program that provides children living in need with one backpack, a set of school supplies, two new sets of clothing and a book.
The Program helps children feel confident and creates positive experiences at the beginning of school which promotes academic success.
During the event, volunteers help hundreds of children pick out clothes, books and backpacks so they are ready and enabled for their first day back to school.

I received the Teamwork Award because I was always willing to help out in other areas of the company and for other departments. Despite how busy I was with other assignments, I helped the audio team in recording a piece where I had to act as though a burglar/intruder had broken into my home, and that I had shot him. It was quite dramatic, and the audio producer actually played the clip during the meeting where I was given the award.

-Big Hearts for Brave Hearts is a young professionals group whose purpose is to support Hospice Austin’s Camp Brave Heart, a free summer camp for children who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Big Hearts members actively participate in volunteer and fundraising activities, as well as networking events to support this special group of children in our community. Young professionals in their 20s to 40s are encouraged to join in and make a difference!
