Every year, the Women's Council on Energy & Environment honors a Woman and Champion of the year. The Woman of the Year Award was created in 1985 to honor a woman of recognized stature in the energy and/or environment fields. WCEE created the Champion Award in 1998 to recognize the importance of mentors for women professionals and to honor those individuals who have championed the advancement of women in our industries.

"In recognition of her distinguished performance as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Energy, Headquarters United States Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, District of Columbia, from 22 September 2014 to 19 January 2017. Ms. Ballentine took aggressive action to mitigate risks associated with the use of perflourinated compounds at Air Force bases, protecting human health by identifying, responding and preventing drinking water contamination across the globe. She facilitated operational energy efficiencies resulting in $1.2 billion in savings. Also, as the Air Force’s most influential infrastructure sponsor, she achieved $32 million in high-return Community Partnership projects, captured leadership and Congressional support for a base closure round through stalwart advocacy and analysis, and set the course for achieving mission assurance through energy assurance creating the Office of Energy Assurance, Resilient Energy Demonstration program, and cross-functional energy vulnerability analysis.
