How do you become a business development associate?
1) Communication skills - You must be able to cater a message to a variance of audiences. 2) Analysis / Math - BD is about modeling. You'll need to model deals to ensure there is mutual benefit. 3) Research / Self Education - Being able to identify and leverage resources and information that aren't front and center is key. No one tells you everything you need to know, it's up to you to find it. 4) Reading Comprehension - Do you like contracts? Do you understand Legalese? You must have the ability read and understand what you're reading.

How do you become a business development associate?
Business Development is not an entry level position, as it requires an understanding of your overall business, partners strategies, market knowledge, contracts, amongst other areas. The two entry paths I recommend are either Sales or Operations. Sales provides the opportunity to engage with and understand partnership strategy, along with learning deal economics. Operations (analyst, etc..) provides the backing and justification of deals, coupled with a macro level understand of company economics, scenarios, etc..
