Here's how you can manage high expectations and workload without causing burnout.
I don't believe there is a single solution to manage workloads, achieve high expectations and to avoid burnout. Accounting demands are high at every level and the CFO is such an important role for any organization. From experience, my thoughts here are to realize burnout occurs and to recognize the signs and act accordingly. I like all of the options above but different strategies work at different times for me. One cannot delegate with a smaller, inexperienced team but you can critically look at areas which are taking up much of your time or are a significant challenge in the effort to arrive at a bigger picture solution. Other times, rising out of the details to see the bigger picture helps.

What do you do if your organization needs to improve its risk management practices?
It's always good to start with the end in mind and then consider where you are today. This will facilitate the ability to create a road map to get where you need to be. Too often companies jump towards solutions before truly assessing and understanding risn management needs. Known risks should certainly be understood and planned for and the challenging unknown risks should also always be considered.
