    On today’s episode of Ready for Change?, host Mike Jarmus speaks with SOCASH CEO, Hari Sivan. Hari has an extensive resume in the financial industry, but branched out on his own to start up SOCASH. The SOCASH app helps consumers, banks, and retailers distribute cash quickly; connecting end users with each other, turning retailers and people into virtual ATMs. SOCASH is Singapore’s largest cash distribution network. It provides benefits for all parties involved and reducing the inefficient supply chains generally associated with cash distribution.

    Considering the inefficiencies in the supply chains, Hari explains why he decided to make the SOCASH app. He also mentions the two companies -- PayPal and China’s Ant Financial – that he used as an inspiration for constantly adapt to the market and to adjust his business model on the fly.

    With all this growth and work that needs to be done, Mike and Hari end the episode by discussing ways to balance professional and personal lives, noting that he likes to make time for all the important things like school functions or his son’s bedtime. There is some give and take as well, like shorter vacations for the family. Mike wraps up by informing us that SOCASH is now moving into Indonesia and Malaysia.

I, unfortunately, did not walk away so lucky. I did however come quite close with my pick of Brooks Koepka (2nd place…

    Even though I did not win big money on this golf tournament, I’m confident that I will have easier opportunities to place additional sports bets in the future. Prior to the U.S. Open, the state of Illinois passed legislation legalizing sports betting. It was among the most recent states – Indiana, Iowa, and Tennessee — to have passed bills that legalize it in some form. The bill stands out from other state bills because it legalizes sports betting not only at casinos, but race tracks and sports venues of 17,000 seats or greater.

    SXSW is not like any conference I have attended. The conference is spread over nine days in Austin, Texas. The diversity of the speakers, attendees, food trucks, sessions and expo companies were amazing. The sessions featured topics from health & medtech to cryptocurrency to tech in industries from aerospace to retail. There were sessions for anyone no matter the industry. I attended a mix of panels, product launch sessions, the trade show and networking events in just three short days. Most of the sessions I attended focused on the future of R&D, innovation, the retail industry and branding strategy. The post covers my experiences, takeaways and what I learned from the conference.

This remains true for companies in the retail and financial institution sectors who have invested heavily in the digital world.
