What are the essential tools for tracking and analyzing sales performance in direct sales?
Tracking all the KPIs listed above are a basic requirement of sales leadership. I don’t get too excited about “knowing” what the metrics state. I get excited about “what can I do to impact results “ in the manner I need. Continued validation and ownership to details make or break the analytics of performance. Restating goals in every 1 on 1, keep focus on the impactful metrics that actually move the business is the key in my opinion. I try to do 3 things consistently and great not 20 things that tend to refocus. Sales people have personalities, I don’t want to take their creativity away but focus that creativity on what matters!

What are the essential tools for tracking and analyzing sales performance in direct sales?
Sales forecasting is at the top of the list of required leadership skills, equal to hiring. Your company expects and demands a leader to deliver on their promises. Over forecasting is more harmful than under forecasting. The only real answer is to develop opportunity pipeline that will provide enough closed deals to drive past the numbers. To be successful you need data analytics of conversion data at every level of your sales cycle, matched with personal performance metrics of your individual sales people. As a leader, it is good to always be in direct communications with as many prospects as possible to get your own “feel” for what will close. I use these 3 methodologies to hit the numbers 90-110%.

CRM is a tool for analyzing data of all kinds. It is critically important to ANY world class sales operation delivering reporting, metric analysis and KPI measurements. Personality and customer relationship are purely a personal skills set that sales people bring as their contribution to success. Working with analytics AND personal skill allow for accelerated growth in sales numbers. Using only one is like fighting with one arm behind your back.
