The Georgia Forestry Foundation (GFF), in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and the Softwood Lumber Board, are accepting applications for the Georgia Mass Timber Accelerator. The Accelerator will support the growth of sustainable development in Georgia by increasing utilization and awareness of mass timber. According to an analysis by Oregon State University, mass timber both stores carbon and reduces GHG emissions by 60 percent when compared to traditional building materials. Architecture, engineering and development teams who submit applications for pending mass timber construction projects by July 2 will be evaluated by a panel of wood design, engineering, and construction experts. Up to six selected teams will be awarded a $25,000 grant and a suite of expert technical assistance to support the advancement of the project, including: design and planning, carbon assessment and cost-benefit analysis. Applicants should be in the early stages of planning and permitting with sufficient staffing capacity to fulfill the Accelerator requirements. Applicants must also have a commitment to sustainable development, with preference given to projects that plan on using regionally sourced mass timber made with Southern Yellow Pine. Sustainable mass timber construction is advantageous for Georgia because of the regenerative, privately-owned, managed forests that blanket two-thirds of the state. https://lnkd.in/gNnrSFR4

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TURNING RENDERINGS INTO REALITY: MULTIPLE PROJECTS IN PROGRESS ON THE NORTHBANK RIVERWALK Jacksonville, FL, July 3, 2024 – Several exciting projects are well underway to deliver a continuous, activated, beautiful, and resilient Riverwalk along the western end of the Northbank riverfront in downtown Jacksonville. McCoy’s Creek Restoration Riverfront Plaza Northbank Bulkhead Replacement - CSX Performing Arts Center – Jacksonville Musical Heritage Garden Please be advised that as the City continues to make great progress on the Northbank, the construction list above will impact Riverwalk availability. It will need to be closed in locations with active work zones, and closed completely when all work zones will be active, which is tentatively projected to occur from fall 2024 through fall 2025. Currently: The Riverwalk is closed between Pearl Street and Main Street. July 8, 2024: The next scheduled closure will begin the week of July 8, 2024, in the McCoys Creek Work Zone from Jackson Street to the Acosta Bridge and last until fall 2025. Corkscrew Park will remain accessible when approaching it from Pearl Street until construction begins in the CSX Bulkhead Work Zone this fall. Corkscrew Park will fully close from Fall 2024 to Fall 2025, but Parks will update the public if it can be re-opened sooner. Fall 2024: The CSX bulkhead project will begin in Fall 2024 and last until Fall 2025. During this time period, the Riverwalk will be closed completely from Jackson Street to Main Street. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be required to bypass the Riverwalk from Jackson Street to Newnan Street. The detour route is identified on the map below, which is also attached, and illustrates the project locations, closure dates and approximate duration of closures. Pedestrians and bicyclists will not have access to the Northbank Riverwalk at these sites during the indicated times.   Vehicle Detours: The Riverwalk construction projects will not impact vehicular traffic. However, vehicular detours associated with other projects (i.e. Emerald Trail – Hogan Street Connector, Adams St. and Forsyth St. Two Way Conversion, and Park Street Road Diet) will be marked by the appropriate signage in the impacted areas.
