Did you know that commercial real estate owners and their commercial tenants can collaborate to manage energy costs?💸 Check out the project that Solect did for Parsons Commercial Group (PCG), a commercial real estate company based in Natick, MA, and two of their tenants. It's a 475 kW rooftop solar PV system at their shared Northborough property.🔆 The results? Energy produced covers 100% of the facility’s electricity needs, enabling both tenants to save on monthly energy expenses. Plus, the extra electricity is transferred via Net Metering to other PCG properties, offsetting energy costs for common areas. This project demonstrates how building owners and tenants can collaborate to achieve clean, affordable energy solutions. With previous roles at the World Economic Forum, United Nations, The Economist and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Richa Sahay, vice president of sustainability consulting, project & development services for JLL, is one of the experts we're most excited to hear speak at BuiltWorlds' upcoming Buildings Conference in NYC. In the lead up to her keynote address on decarbonization, technology, and where the two meet (both in the built world at large as well as at JLL specifically), we were able to sit down with Sahay and pick her brain about some of the industry's most pertinent issues. From operations and aesthetics to securing financing, #sustainabledesign principles are growing in importance across the spectrum of the #multifamily #housing industry. Tying this trend to #EarthDay, we reached out to Multi-Housing News to share examples from TJ clients CRG, Optima, Inc. and Marquette Companies, each of which is uniquely applying sustainable design in their new multifamily #developments. The resulting article focuses on several initiatives that are elevating today’s multifamily living spaces. Optima touted the integration of #ecofriendly appliances, such as induction cooktops, and its innovative #verticallandscaping system, which provides environmental and #biophilic benefits such as improved air quality, solar shading and resident privacy. Marquette emphasized how it is preserving existing topography, including lush mature trees to serve as focal points for outdoor areas, for its new #buildtorent development in Houston. CRG highlighted several design strategies employed to promote sustainable operations, including incorporating green roofs, positioning buildings to maximize natural light and ventilation, and integrating energy-saving features such as LED lighting, low flow fixtures and smart home technology. Check out the story in today's #TJTALK: https://conta.cc/4bgs1Md

Very notable news. This project may represent a tipping point in phasing out fossil fuels as energy sources in buildings--mostly HVAC--as you'll see a greater installation of VRF. A greater electrical demand should also translate to a growth in solar power--not on towers themselves, but in the vicinity. Industrial rooftops are a great start, and frankly, a way for businesses to earn new income as power producers.
