What are the most effective ways to manage relationships with hiring managers?
If you've taken the time to understand and set expectations, and to build solid communications, you should have a good partnership with your hiring teams. When you encounter a 'problem,' make sure you understand it yourself. Look at the numbers and the data (don't just go by feel!), develop theories about what is happening and a few solution options. Then meet with the HM and present your findings and recommendations with a very clear eye towards seeking their input, advice and feedback. You are the expert advisor, but they are the client. Present yourself as an expert, but always as an an expert partner.

What are the most effective ways to manage relationships with hiring managers?
Regular, clear and prescriptive communication will continue to build trust with your hiring managers. Start by finding out what channels and frequency your hiring manager prefers, and stick with that plan. Make sure they are aware of the types of candidates you are speaking with and agree that you are on the right track (vet and check!), they know any challenges or successes you are finding in the marketplace, and that you are regularly checking in to make sure you're aware of any changes to the role. When you communicate, use data!! Show your activity, the conversion rates, interview results, and make concrete recommendations for next steps - you are the expert!

What are the most effective ways to manage relationships with hiring managers?
Great relationships with HM's start when you demonstrate you understand their needs. Take the time to research them, their team, the company and role before you meet. Come with questions prepared and thoughts to share, and then really dig in - ask them pointed questions about what really matters to them, their success, the success of the role and the company. If you start from there, you're already building their confidence in you.

How has the IT recruitment market evolved in recent years?
The focus on data-driven decision-making in companies has pushed talent acquisition functions to get much, much better at understanding company goals and strategies and to be able to speak to how recruiting contributes to those goals, specifically, with numbers. I can tell you exactly how many people it will take to reach our revenue goal for the year, how long it will take to hire them, what it will cost to hire them, how long it will take them to be producing, and therefore what each vacant seat costs us. I can tell our CEO what turnover is doing to our bottom line. I can explain where training to upskill will save money. Data is king.
