Fraud in market research has reached crisis proportions. I was at a conference recently where someone reported 90% of the respondents in a specific study were fraudulent! We at Rare Patient Voice take many measures to minimize fraud. I’d like to say eliminate it, but they said the Titanic was unsinkable. But that’s our goal. One of the most important ways to make sure our patients and caregivers are real is how we recruit them. We go to patient events. In person. Live. Patient conferences, fund-raisers, and walks. We talk with the patients. They get to know who we are, we get to know who they are. No one flies across the country for the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation conference to be a fake in surveys. What’s the unheralded workhorse of clinical trials? Randomization and Trial Supply Management or #RTSM A complex protocol is like blueprint for an amazing skyscraper and the IRT experts are the construction workers who make that vision a reality. And if all goes well, no one notices. But if there is a problem, it could be a disaster. Granted, every role in trial conduct is challenging and requires dedication, experience, and attention to detail. But there is something special about keeping thousands of patients organized into blinded treatment arms while ensuring they get the right medications and supplies in a global study. Many of us don’t consider what it takes to make this happen, just as many of us don’t question what it takes for Amazon to get a purchase to our door withing hours of an order. When I started learning about eclincal technology at Bioclinica, I thought it was simple. A site is supposed to enroll ten patients, so that site gets ten kits. Boy was I wrong. 4G Clinical’s Casey Ferrier set me straight. Predicting adequate drug supply is a science and an art. And the right IRT, properly managed, is a true asset in any trial. Endpoint Clinical has published a great article outlining how a properly managed IRT goes beyond RTSM to support efficient trial conduct, focusing on five key areas: 1.     Aligning Procurement Strategies with IRT Systems 2.     Streamlining Clinical Operations through IRT Integration 3.     Optimizing Clinical Trial Supply Management with Real-time Monitoring 4.     Regulatory Compliance and Quality Control in IRT Systems 5.     Data-Driven Strategic Decision-making for Supply Managers It’s a quick read, and I’d encourage anyone who wants to learn more about this fascinating aspect of clinical trials to check it out at the link below. One of the most common mistakes of B2B marketing communications? Meaningless adjectives. I can’t count how many times I’ve received a reviewed draft with words like “cutting edge, innovative, state-or-art, advanced, integrated” and so on inserted before the word “solution.” And it all means nothing. In this blog, Suvoda’s Andrés Escallónón uses a compound adjective with meaning – purpose-built. He’s not just highlighting that Suvoda has built a platform with key elements for running trials like eConsent, IRT, and eCOA. The purpose that comes through is to create an exceptional user experience. And by “user,” he means the sites and the patients, not the person configuring the system. This is a great point that is so often overlooked in the industry. It goes beyond features and benefits (the what it can do) to the impact it can have on improving the overall trial (the why it exists). When companies highlight “patient engagement,” I hear them focusing on their own needs. The purpose here is more important – patient respect. If you have that, engagement will come. And to everyone looking to fill your content with whiz-bang words, reflect on the wisdom of E. B. White. “Write with nouns and verbs, not with adjectives and adverbs. If you follow my feed, you know that I’ve been talking about MDRG, Inc.'s #HX Index study, which examines how consumers use and evaluate #HealthSystems and #RetailHealth providers for their primary care needs. Since the pandemic, many consumers are open to non-traditional primary care; 50% already use it, and even more plan to seek out Retail Health in the future due to its convenience. 🤸‍♀️ Retail Health wins on Convenience, while Health Systems excel on Quality, according to the study. 🤸‍♂️ However, my recent experience at Ochsner Health was so exceptional that it deserves space here. I had two diagnostic appointments at a facility next to a mall, and from start to finish, the process was seamless. Parking was ample, navigation was easy, and check-in was immediate. I waited only 1.5 minutes for my first appointment, and the technician offered and then arranged for my next appointment to start earlier than scheduled. In and out in under 25 minutes, every staff member was friendly, helpful, and genuinely pleasant. It felt as though I was their only priority! 🤸‍♀️ Based on this experience, I have to believe that Health Systems can match the Convenience of Retail Health, with the added benefits of Quality and a Trusted Relationship. If replicated, I’d have no reason to use Retail Health.
