The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) ,in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation and the City of Hollywood, Florida, recently completed the Complete Streets Demonstration project along Hollywood Blvd.  This collaborative effort builds upon the vision set by the Broward MPO’s Complete Streets Initiative. This transformative project included the following elements: 12’ sidewalks, buffered bike lanes, transit amenities, pedestrian lighting, refuge islands, mast arms, landscaping and mid-block crossings. Since the completion of the project, the corridor has seen overall improvements in metrics utilized to measure success.  Crashes have been reduced by 50%, bike and pedestrian activity has increased by 47%, and vehicular speeds have been lowered by 10%. In addition, redevelopment has increased in the corridor. Now, individuals can schedule their own arraignment times and access copies of their citations through the traffic public portal. This user-friendly system streamlines the arraignment process, allowing people to choose convenient times and reducing confusion. The defendant portal is part of the court’s commitment to expanding access to justice through technology, following the activation of the traffic portal and MyCitations. 🙌 The portal allows people to set arraignments at available times that best match their schedule and reduces the potential for confusion in the arraignment process. https://lnkd.in/gRSQm9w7

🌟 Exciting News! In 2023, Outagamie County, Calumet County, and Fox Cities Greenways, Inc. joined together to form the Calumet County Coalition. Our collaborative efforts have been recognized by the USEPA, which has awarded us a $1,000,000 Brownfields Coalition Assessment Grant. This grant is a one of a kind opportunity for our community, as it's dedicated to revitalizing brownfield sites and fostering sustainable redevelopment across Calumet and Outagamie Counties. 🏗️ What does this mean for our region? The grant funds will be utilized for a range of essential activities, including: • Conducting comprehensive brownfield site inventories • Performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments • Assessing existing buildings for Asbestos, Lead-based Paint, and Restricted Waste • Carrying out thorough site investigations • Developing robust remedial and reuse plans • Engaging in vital community outreach and education initiatives 🔍 But here's where YOU come in! The Florida Housing Summit by Florida Policy Project with speaker Nolan Gray was excellent. Main takeaways: -Growth in Florida is inevitable, we need to take actions now to address the housing affordability crisis or housing will become increasingly unattainable. -Current zoning policies are making housing affordability more difficult. -Decriminalize inherently attainable missing middle housing typologies, focus on having apartments near transit. -Eliminate minimum parking requirements; these requirements discourage adaptive reuse of buildings. Consumers should have the ability to decide the amount of parking needed. -Reduce minimum lot sizes, stop mandating the construction of mansions. -Discretionary policies politicize new housing developments; objective standards and administrative approval remove barriers to the consturction of attainable housing.

On April 10th, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a Notice of Proposed Rule Making about lowering barriers for people with criminal records seeking #housing through public housing authorities and other housing providers. #HUD seeks public comments and recommendations on this rule by June 10th.
