“I met Matt when he was CEO of ThisNext. I had been asked by one of their two major Venture Capital backers to see if I could help him in his task of turning around a troubled startup (which is an *extremely* difficult task). Matt and I immediately hit it off personally and professionally, and Matt hired me as a consultant to help figure this puzzle out. Over the course of the next year we worked together to either come up with a new concept and reboot the company into a completely new vision -- or figure out how to sell it. Under Matt's leadership, that's exactly what we did: ThisNext was reborn as Glossi: a completely new product and vision -- and armed with new funding. That's actually pretty huge when you consider everything that had to line up for that to happen. Matt was able to both retain great employees (the prime asset of ANY startup) under very difficult circumstances and attract new major talent, especially in the person of Robyn Ward, a known powerhouse bizdev and startup person in LA. He was also able to build consensus with a fractured board with widely-ranging and vastly differing opinions: any time a startup has entered the place ThisNext was in, with a long history of pivots and new financing and legal wrangling, the difficulty of achieving what Matt did cannot really be understated. In many ways, taking on what Matt did is harder that creating a new startup from scratch (and THAT is hard enough). There, at least you're starting with zero. That Matt inherited less than zero and successfully struggled upwards towards a new vision, with new people and new funding, is sort of miraculous. Matt's style is very metrics-driven. He wants to quickly iterate in tight cycles based on actionable data. There we clashed a little bit :) I tend to be more 'from the gut'. But the clash was good: I learned a lot from Matt during my time with him, and a new appreciation of his metric-oriented style was certainly something I picked up during this time. Matt is very approachable and well-liked by the people he works with. He's not a hard person to get along with and that's really important in a leader. He's also a very 'on it' kind of guy, always showing up to win and always trying to listen to every opinion in the room and understand a problem from a lot of angles. He is even-tempered, and calm, even when others in the room are raising their voices and tempers are flying off the handle. Matt was a pleasure to work with. I'm happy to call him a friend and if you're thinking about hiring him, do it. Great guy, great leader. Get him if you can! :)”

One of my most profound memories was meeting Jackie Robinson. It is one of the few moments I can picture clearly from my earliest years in life. Through family, I have been close with his remarkable widow, Rachel, and the entire Robinson clan ever since. I am proud to be able to honor his legacy and continue to expand his extraordinary impact on the world by working within the Foundation to help interview and select deserving minority and disadvantaged young people to receive college…

My daughter has a rare and extreme form of epilepsy. I joined the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles to help build programs and secure support for families throughout the Los Angeles region, and ultimately around the country, who are coping with similar circumstances. Epilepsy is a terrible disease. Our goal is to end it.
