“Matt and I met when I was a Scrum Coach at his organization, where I was responsible for mentoring/coaching him and his team on SAFe/Agile/Scrum concepts. Matt is in the top 5% of Scrum Masters I have mentored in my career. His leadership skills alone are excellent. He is very adept at situational leadership, something we call "coaching stances" in the Agile space. He knows when to step in and help teach the team, he knows how to grow the teams' skill sets quickly, and he knows how to back off and encourage creativity once they have achieved a new level of skill. It is clear just how much he cares about the members on his teams. On top of that, he knows that some organizations are not ready to go full bore Scrum, and he is very talented at finding the right level of practice for the right situation. He demonstrated a very sharp ability to work with levels of management above him, and the last trait that I admire about him is that he is constantly seeking self improvement in all aspects of his job performance. On his own time and initiative, he studied for a highly challenging Scrum certification exam and passed it with flying colors, and then set himself on a course to learn even more. As you can imagine, with all of these talents, I barely had to mentor him -- so I watched him bring a team from beginners through to a fairly advanced practice of Scrum -- as good as I've seen in my 22yr career. If I could, I would bring him into every organization I coach on Agile, and tell Scrum Masters and other servant leaders to emulate what he does!”
