🌟Honoring AAPI Heritage Month: lifting up health equity solutions from Asia As a multiracial woman with plenty of confusion about my identity, it is only in the past few years that I've personally connected with AAPI Heritage Month. I wasn't sure I was Asian enough. Like so many others who are part of the diaspora, I am not 100% fluent in an Asian language or cultural norms. But I have come to realize that is not necessary to feel emotionally and culturally connected to the places of our ancestors. I am proud to say I belong to this community and continue to be in awe of the richness in art, culture, and social justice traditions across the AAPI community. I wanted to share a few amazing examples of solutions to health equity challenges coming out of Asian nations that are driven by communities and advance health equity. 🏘️Japan’s Intergenerational, Mixed-Use Housing Complex: in response to a growing population, Kashiwa City-based housing developers have created a housing complex that led to thousands of affordable homes and offers key resources for residents of all generations. From children centers to assisted living spaces, the Toyoshikidai complex fosters healthy living and connection.  ✏️Caregiving training in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal: with growing needs for care work in these nations, Noora Health, created a program for family members who provide care for their loved ones to receive training, education, and virtual support on caregiving. By extending the net of people with the necessary knowledge to perform care work, Noora Health is working to improve access to necessary care. 🪴Urban Agriculture in Singapore: with global events impacting food and nutrition security in their country, communities across Singapore are finding innovative solutions to grow produce and herbs within the limited space they have available. Using land inside buildings, on rooftops, and creating vertical gardens on walls, they are working to increase access to the healthy foods their families and neighbors need to thrive. PEPFAR: President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief- one of the most impactful global health programs ever created. Being cut. Helps the standing of the U.S. in the world (U.S. spending a lot on weapons/war lately but global health profoundly helps people)- really hoping these funding cuts to PEPFAR can be reversed. Bipartisan initiative (started under GW Bush) and has provided life-saving and life-sustaining antiretrovirals for children and adults with HIV everywhere; also supports other clinical programs non-related to HIV through bolstering infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gdBsVMca

The US faces significant challenges in health care access and equity, with structural, racial, environmental, and financial barriers impacting millions. To address these issues, the National Health Council, National Medical Association, and PhRMA have launched an initiative – the US Consensus Framework (USCF). The USCF fosters collaboration across the health care ecosystem, with patients positioned at the center by prioritizing collaborating with patients and stakeholders to directly tackle access barriers like medical debt, hindering quality care for a vast segment of the population. With a focus on equity, it also emphasizes clear financial practices ensuring all arrangements have legitimate purposes and written contracts are in place. This is meant to prevent inappropriate influence by enforcing restrictions on gifts between patients, health care professionals, and life sciences companies. Recognizing the lack of diversity in research, the USCF encourages inclusive clinical trials and research practices that reflect the rich tapestry of the population. I hope we can continue to find other pathways for implementing policies and solutions. #Healthcare #Policy #Equity

Egypt’s #MinistryOfHealth Unveils #PublicPrivatePartnership Plans, But #Doctors Raise Concerns #Egypt's healthcare sector is poised for a shakeup with the government's plan to grant private entities #ConcessionContracts to manage #PublicHospitals. This public-private partnership (#PPP) initiative aims to improve the #LegislativeFramework for #HealthCareInvestment. While some hail this move as a step forward, the #GeneralSyndicateOfDoctors in Egypt has expressed concerns. The Syndicate argues the government should incentivize building new hospitals, not outsourcing management of existing ones. They also question safeguards for worker rights, selection criteria for PPP hospitals, and potential foreign investor influence. The Syndicate proposes #CapacityBuilding and #InfrastructureInvestment to address shortcomings, while advocating for government #Oversight and #FairTreatment of #HealthCareWorkers. From expanded Medicaid coverage to innovative postpartum care centers, we're seeing incremental positive strides in maternal healthcare. Recent studies recommend more comprehensive postpartum visits, focusing on emotional well-being and infant care. These changes aim to better support new mothers and tackle our country’s maternal health crisis. Let's continue to push for systemic improvements and equitable access to healthcare to ensure everyone who gives birth gets the care they deserve.

Awareness to ACTION: Investing in Solutions to End Health Disparities. The Lancet Breast Cancer Commission report released this week underscores the critical issue of #healthdisparities, highlighting its impact on everything from prevention to treatment outcomes in #breastcancer patients. We know from uncountable reports, research, data, and evidence that this extends far beyond breast cancer, as #socialdeterminents of health are at the center of every aspect of healthcare and public health. We have overwhelming acknowledgment of the impact of disparities. It is beyond time to step up the action. Investing in solutions to address these inequalities yields multifaceted benefits across all health domains, including maternal health, and reproductive health. In addition to fundamental right to health, investment in addressing disparities make a strong financial case. In the US, social determinants of health like race and socioeconomic status are deeply linked to morbidity and mortality rates. By tackling these disparities, we can improve health outcomes and create a more equitable healthcare system. The report emphasizes the importance of: ➡ Combating discrimination: Racial and ethnic discrimination significantly affect breast cancer outcomes. The report highlights successful anti-discrimination policies and interventions as a path forward. ➡ Empowering minority groups: The inclusion and mobilization of minority groups is crucial for achieving equitable healthcare.
