Oracle's Ken Glueck writes last week of his competition: "Everyone in the industry understands that Epic’s CEO Judy Faulkner is the single biggest obstacle to EHR interoperability. She opposes interoperability because it threatens Epic’s franchise. By contrast, Oracle believes outcomes are easier to obtain when providers can collaborate and gain insights across systems, data, and application silos." Which is not incorrect. But markets are about power and control, of getting 'others' to build on and sustain the economic system you started. They're about gravitational pull into your orbit, not technical push into someone else's. And Epic, like UnitedHealth Group and Express Scripts by Evernorth and Mercer, are 'control points' in the American Way of Healthcare. They are the Big EHR and Big Payer and Big PBM and Big EBC writing the source code to keep their flywheels going. They're the apex predators in a blow-up-your-brain ecology of complexity and fragmentation that's getting worse, not better. But if you understand how to #position leverage, if you're fluent in systems thinking, and if you approach #growth as a function of market innovation told and sold with a unique strategy story, then it becomes simple to see space to displace 'the system' that can't be "fixed". Everyone is vulnerable. All successful companies need to move with the winds of change. And AI is a typhoon.  The best way to learn how to pivot is to observe those who have done so already.  The agility required for corporate pivoting also applies to personal switch-ups.

What can industry leaders learn from Apple’s approach to AI? Stop using terms like “we are AI first” or “AI led” (What does that even mean in an enterprise context? 😀) Start designing an “AI in everything” plan. Why do strategy frameworks fall short so often? Although they can be used as a guide to determine whether an opportunity is worth pursuing or if a plan is likely to be effective, they often fall short when it comes to generating new ideas or crafting innovative strategies from scratch. An article by Harvard Business Review introduces a categorization of potential strategies that prove how, ultimately, all business strategies fall into four categories: - Adapting successful strategies within your industry. Like Shein, which redefined fast fashion by doubling down on online sales and AI-driven trend detection, cutting costs, and cornering the U.S. market. - Importing strategies from other industries. Best Buy's "store-within-a-store" concept, borrowed from department stores, proved what many thought was impossible and successfully fought back against Amazon's dominance. - Combining strategies across different industries. Spotify's blend of music streaming and social networking keeps users engaged, setting it apart from competitors. - Creating strategies from scratch. Elon Musk's SpaceX rockets and Airbnb's home rental platform were born from challenging conventional wisdom and rethinking industry norms. Understanding these concepts and strategies can help better navigate diverse paths to achievements in competitive markets. This new interesting study warns of AI deception: AI, on its own, deceived, betrayed, and lied while playing a game of Diplomacy. It lied to get past a Capchta. This shows us dangers of AI: fraud, election tampering, and loss of control.
