Coach Vargas, Master's Level (Level 5) USA Hockey Coach, started coaching hockey when asked to sub for coaches of a house league team. Before, Luis worked with youth mentoring organizations in the Tampa area. As his oldest son chose hockey, he continued youth mentoring through the sport.

Coach Vargas, Master's Level (Level 5) USA Hockey Coach, started coaching hockey when asked to sub for coaches of a house league team. Before, Luis worked with youth mentoring organizations in the Tampa area. As his oldest son chose hockey, he continued youth mentoring through the sport.

Learning as an adult allowed him to experience and empathize with struggles and challenges youth experience while learning the sport. Coach Vargas has enjoyed it as a player, coach, referee, and spectator. His technical training and strategic background helped Coach Vargas teach technical aspects of the game.

Luis has developed and mentored youth at every division from Mite through Midget including house and travel teams. Coach Vargas led Team Florida High School all-star team to its best performance at the 2009 Chicago Showcase - a heavily scouted junior level competition for teams throughout the US. He also coached the 2012 Showcase team and helped develop players through local High School Development Camps in 2009 and 2010.

Following a desire to grow participation, among other things, Coach Vargas founded Newsome Ice Wolves High School Hockey Club and coached there from 2004 through 2011 and assisted as able since.

Mixing passion for education with hockey, Luis became a Coaching Education Program instructor with USA Hockey in 2005 to help influence coaches in their approach while encouraging them to adopt USA Hockey's ADM. Being a CEP instructor allows him to share his trust in long-term athletic development.

Coach Vargas believes the enjoyment of the experience is most important in any sport; and, the sport is an important instrument toward helping young men and women develop as people. Show less
