Of course FWA is future proof. FWA is the only edge technology that passes future homes and businesses before those structures are ever built, and without additional capital investment. 🙂 A wired last-mile, on the other hand, is never future-proof, regardless of the technology. Since 2000, the number of fixed telephone line subscriptions has declined by 50%. As telecom technology continues to move to wireless and internet-based services, many legacy systems are left behind during annual service upgrades. I agree with this statement. In most cases, if you’re having trouble on a 50 or 100 meg residential service that’s performing on that level, your issue isn’t the connection speed and “upgrades” to a gig will most likely not make it better.

Interesting Read - The Western Governors Association is pressing Congress and Federal agencies to cut thier own red tape around Broadband Funding. Historically, most all of the Federal programs around Broadband funding are frout with Polices, Decres and procedures that impede the approval process, and limit the ablity of many Rural Providers to bid on and win funding. Tha WGA is also pushing to standardize the approved definition of broadband to "at least" 100 megabytes per second (Mbps) for downloads, 20 megabytes per second for uploads, and "scalable to" 100 Mbps for both, across all Federal Funding. #ruralbroadband #ruralinternet, #ruralconnectivity, #wisp, #wirelessbroadband

We love to see win-win activities. NextNav placed a win-win-win-win proposal before the FCC. In short, NextNav requests to repurpose 15 MHz of spectrum in the lower 900 MHz band from Location Management Services (LMS) to 5G broadband use. Who are the 4 winners? 1. NextNav benefits shareholders by monetizing its valuable low band spectrum. 2. The FCC shows tangible progress in its goal of making viable spectrum available for broadband use. 3. Customers enjoy more robust mobile broadband services. 4. GPS users have an opportunity to fix interference issues and indoor signal weakness. This is proposal that I fully support.

Net Neutrality Rules Make No Sense in the Age of 5G Network Slicing An article in the Washington Post points out that the FCC's efforts to reprise Obama-era net neutrality rules doesn't take into account how the internet has changed in the last 15 years, with a growing number of internet-connected devices ranging from robot vacuums to entire factories. AT&T spokesman Alex Byers explained that 5G network slicing, which creates fast lanes for specialized apps, "is the technology that will help unlock the full potential of telemedicine, autonomous vehicles, automated manufacturing and virtual reality." https://lnkd.in/dpCggCAg

Once-in-a-generation funding initiatives (including the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment - BEAD - program) have created extensive opportunities for unprecedented broadband infrastructure development in underserved and rural communities. While funding programs hold great promise for advancing digital equity, the current broadband workforce is ill-equipped to meet required labor demands. In fact, according to the WEF Future of Jobs report, 61% of workers will require retraining by 2027.      Some present-day challenges include:     A tech talent deficit: Unprecedented demand for install and repair techs, combined with low awareness of the potential for broadband careers among the public and in schools.   Outdated education resources: Technical colleges lack modern broadband education resources which leads to student loss and faculty/employer frustration.      We need new methods to reach high-potential candidates and mentoring to create a scalable, locally sourced workforce.      Calix recognizes that developing effective solutions to bridge the skills gap is vital to customer success. At last, some good news for MNOs! It seems all that network investment over the years could literally be a gold (or copper) mine! According to engineering firm TXO - over $7 billion-worth of unused copper cabling could be recovered in the next decade.
