Grant Writer and Development Team member at Dillard University, a 150-year-old, private, Historically Black University (HBCU) in New Orleans, LA. Responsible for finding, writing, and managing grants for the university across all disciplines. Brought in over $800,000 in grant funding in 2019 and reorganized the grants management system.

PhD student in the lab of Dr. Sunshine Van Bael in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. My research focused on the microbiomes (fungi and bacteria) that live within baldcypress trees.

Instructed three children in English, math and science. Position required curriculum development, cultural sensitivity and ability to communicate clearly with both the children and parents.

Co-created and pioneered the Travel Internship program for Appropedia.org, the wiki for sustainable development. Traveled to three countries visiting successful appropriate technology projects. Used interviews, photos and diagrams to create wiki pages documenting the projects. Created 12 unique pages drawing over 80,000 page views.

Worked on a remote field station in the Peruvian Amazon. Project aimed to take vertebrate census by sequencing the blood found in the mosquitoes. My position included several hours of daily solo treks through the forest with heavy equipment, setting up traps, troubleshooting and fixing trap malfunctions, use of GPS, recognition of mosquito characteristic (sex, blood-fed, species), and detailed microscope work.

Identified, located, keyed, and collected local flora for display in the HSU Plant Taxonomy
(BOT 350) course laboratory. Position required knowledge of local flora, collecting methods, and use of the Jepson Manual.

Examined the relationship between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and seedlings of the threatened hardwood Dipteryx panamensis. Reported that Dipteryx seedlings planted far (versus near) from adult trees had a significantly higher percentage of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) colonization, no significant relationship existed between initial seed weight and percent AMF colonization and a significant positive relationship existed between the percentage of AMF colonization and aboveground seedling… Show more

Demonstrated appropriate technologies in an on-campus residence, managed 20 student employees and a $40,000 budget, acted as a community liaison and public relations official, presented at conferences, give tours and radio interviews, worked closely with the HSU administration to maintain the integrity of the center during its relocation to a new facility.
