As, I continue into my internship with the American Heart Association as a Marketing and Communications Intern, this summer. 👩🏾‍💻I wanted to share some tips that I learned this past spring based on my experiences: Coffee Chats ☕️: As a introvert, I found that coffee chats ( especially virtual ones😉) are amazing ways to talk to people from different departments to learn more about what they do and potential career opportunities. Also, it’s a EASY AND GREAT way to network! Play the “intern card “🪪: Everyone in the office or organization ( especially at AHA) are more than willing to talk with you. By effictvly using the “intern card” you can network and connect with people ALL over the organization. 🌎Which, can help you learn more about the organization, different people and their roles, career paths and allivaiate some of your curiosity with certain positions. Create a master list of your projects 📝: Make a running list of projects that you worked on during the internship, so that you can easily refer back to them. This is also great, if you are in marketing or graphic design, so you can refer to these items and ensure you add them to your portfolio. 📁 Imposter syndrome is not your friend ❌: It’s it’s important to remember that you earned every right to be in the position that you are in today. Don’t let your self- saboteur prevent you from excelling in your position because you think you don’t belong. Know and believe yourself, your abilities and accolades. 🧏🏾‍♀️ I hope these these tips help someone out there. Especially as we all start new positions/internships, this summer.🫶🏾 This past term, I learned and achieved so much. (Did I mention that I got my first media placement🤭👀). I am super grateful to have gotten this opportunity. I cannot wait to see what this summer at the American Heart Association, has in store for me. 🥰

🤔 Seems obvious, but students in internships should leave feeling they actually LEARNED something, besides how to order lunch or other mundane tasks. Give them a project, let them sit in on meetings, and give them space to provide feedback. You brought them on to learn and to utilize their skillset, so let them make a positive impact on your business. #marketing #careerdevelopment #internship #advice #mentorship

Since I kicked off my marketing internship with Penguin Random House this week, I thought I'd start a new series called #WFHWednesday, sharing tips, tricks, and takes on working from home as a remote Gen Z employee. I encountered a strange feeling when sitting down at my desk and opening up my laptop to do remote work. I've been working on my laptop since after my freshman year of college, but it hit me that I haven't sat down to do work on a screen for eight hours since, you guessed it, 2020. Unlike my experience with online high school, though, I am thoroughly enjoying my days and am not having a problem (so far) with getting through my 9-5 (sometimes 9-6) day. I wanted to share some tips on how to get through a long day staring at a screen without burning out. 1: This seems obvious, but loving what you do will make it so much easier to sit through a day in one spot. Find a passion for your activities, and even if you're working on a project you don't totally love, remember why you like your field in the first place. 2: Keep your cameras on! It fosters personal connections so much faster, and makes other people more inclined to engage with you. This is also why I think I like working in a remote environment way more than being in a remote academic environment. 3: Balance your day with tasks and communication. Doing tasks back-to-back can definitely burn me out even if I'm not working 8-hour days. Even if you have no meetings scheduled, take a few deep breaths and look around your room before continuing. 4: Schedule time away from your screen! I like to do this right before I start my day and right after I end it, then another hour before I fall asleep. Last week, as a #CommsTeamIntern at #SpartanNash, I had the exciting opportunity to participate in a Day in the Field with Josh Libkie, Grocery Operations Manager at SpartanNash's Grand Rapids Distribution Center. Josh had so much awesome insight to share in the few hours I spent with him. Here are just a few takeaways from our time together: 1. Training strategies and techniques for new employees is a lot more complicated than I would've thought. 2. It is crucial as a leader to not only reward workers but also remind them that their jobs matter and make a huge impact on SpartanNash's success. 3. Change for the sake of change usually fails. It needs to be intentional and have a clear purpose and objective. 4. It's important to solve the little things to solve a big thing. 5. "One of the greatest problem-solving tools is perspective." 🤯 It was also a pleasure to meet and meet Jacob Fuller, aPHR, and learn from Lake Zackrison as well. Friday Frustration Alert: I have 8 years of experience in my home country, and I'm currently pursuing a Master's degree at Wright State University. As I apply for marketing positions ranging from entry-level to mid-senior, I'm encountering a variety of challenges. Some feedback suggests that I'm overqualified, while others imply that my international experience isn't valued, essentially making me a fresher in their eyes. Either way, the rejections keep coming. 🙃 It's incredibly frustrating not knowing why I'm being rejected or why another candidate was chosen. I'm sure many of you can relate to this uncertainty. Moreover, it feels contradictory when companies emphasize the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), yet reject candidates based on their need for future sponsorship. Over a month into my #marketing internship, my thoughts🧠… 🌟Showing up every day is essential. I don’t mean literally showing up that’s a given, but showing up every day with a drive and a willingness to learn and work hard. 🌟Becoming a lifelong student starts now. You have to be a lifelong learner. It does not end just in high school in college, but it continues out throughout your professional and personal life and it starts now. 🌟Marketing is incredibly engaging and exciting. If you want a job that isn’t boring and requires you to problem solve and be creative every day marketing is where it is at. I am challenged pushed and excited every day for what’s ahead of me. Interning with Acuity Brands' creative marketing team has come to be an enriching experience! 🌟 As a part of this program, my mentor Joe Shugart has organized "design talks" where we discuss interesting topics within the design industry. Last week Joe and I analyzed COLLINS, a renowned transformation consultancy. Joe challenged me to select one of COLLINS' projects and discuss its significance, keeping these questions in mind: What elements draw you to this project, and how can they influence your personal style? ✏️ What makes this project interesting to you? 🤔 COLLINS' work for sweetgreen's brand system truly stood out to me. The simplified illustration style, light and refreshing colors, and photography cohesive to the illustrations caught my eye. 👀 The way COLLINS brought Sweetgreen's philosophy of being "a different kind of fast food place" to life is brilliant. 🔆 Rather than the typical consumerist, boldly colored unhealthy fast food branding, Sweetgreen's system feels light, refreshing and pastoral - reflective of the healthy food they serve and their commitment to sustainability. 🥗🌿 The Sweetgreen brand system's overall cohesion in its visuals is what drew me in. 💚 The photography, stunning colors, illustrations, and typography mesh together so beautifully, as if meant to be together from the start. It inspired me to strive for that level of intentional cohesion in my work. This project resonated with me because of its innovative approach in repositioning a fast food brand towards health and wellness through the branding itself. 🍃 The meaningful concept and stunning visuals brought it to life. Transforming Student-Athlete Futures: My Journey with CCA As a student-athlete at the University of Cincinnati, I've had the privilege of being part of the development and insight generation process with CCA-Carbon Copy Assets. This revolutionary app set to launch this fall is not just about tracking stats and rewards; it's about empowering student-athletes to take control of our personal brand narratives and explore exciting opportunities in the community beyond the sports arena. Working alongside the CCA team with Michael Jones and Jordan Tate, I've witnessed firsthand how this app goes beyond traditional metrics in the NIL space. It's about showcasing the essence of what makes each student-athlete unique through digital badges earned from a range of activities, both online and offline. These badges are a testament to hard work, dedication, and individuality each athlete holds. What excites me the most about CCA is its potential to open doors to influencer marketing collaborations with major brands. It's not just about what we do on the field or in the pool; it's about leveraging our strengths and accomplishments to create meaningful partnerships and shape our futures. I believe that CCA is more than just an app; it's a game-changer for student-athletes everywhere. It's a tool that empowers us to excel not only in our sport but also in NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) and personal branding. Summer break is another opportunity to learn! This past semester, I experienced the day-to-day tasks of a UX designer and loved it. Now, I'm excited to share that I've completed the Google Foundations of User Experience (UX) Design certification on Coursera! Thanks to Google, Coursera, and The University of Texas at San Antonio for this fantastic course. I can't wait to apply my new skills to create a better user experience #uxdesign

Hello all! During week six of the Hobby Lobby Advertising Internship, I finished my campaign build and powerpoint. I now have the audience targeting methods, budget, ad copy, and KPIs ready to present. I will present my campaign plan next Tuesday to the advertising team to get approval and notes for campaign edits. This week, I also published sitelinks at the ad group level on all search campaigns and published responsive ad copy for another search campaign. Next week, I will start researching trending topics and develop a creative trend request for the advertising team. Guess what my proposed campaign is? Hint: look at the image attached to this post. I am over halfway done with the internship. It’s going by so fast!

These past 3 months, I have had the incredible opportunity of returning to the AMA Agency as a Project Manager (prev Consultant)! Throughout this journey, I developed my project management, marketing, and consulting skills. In this role, I supported and led a team of four fantastic consultants in creating marketing and business deliverables (Search Engine Optimization, Website Redesign, Social Media/Digital Marketing, and Email Marketing) for a local gardening and nursery business in Seattle, WA.   Over the past 10 weeks, I implemented agile processes to enhance project efficiency and flexibility. Adopting agile methodologies was crucial, allowing us to respond quickly to client feedback and changing requirements. I structured this project into iterative cycles, or sprints, each focused on delivering specific outcomes. This approach enabled us to break down complex tasks into manageable segments, ensuring continuous progress and regular client checkpoints.   Working with my client, I had the opportunity to lead several digital marketing initiatives, including a complete website redesign and developing a comprehensive digital marketing strategy that integrated search engine optimization (SEO) and social media marketing to drive brand awareness and engagement. We conducted keyword research, optimized website content, and implemented SEO and search engine marketing (SEM) best practices to improve search rankings. The website redesign focused on enhancing user experience, improving site navigation, and ensuring mobile responsiveness. Additionally, we created targeted social media campaigns to effectively reach and engage our audience, utilizing analytics to refine our approach and maximize impact. Consulting demands innovative problem-solving, and I honed this skill by brainstorming with my team, thinking creatively, and iterating on ideas to achieve optimal solutions.   One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role was mentoring the team, especially having been an AMA Consultant myself. Witnessing Shinjini Mitra Mustafi Reese Reddemann Samindhi Wijesinghe and Kayla P. professional growth throughout the project was deeply rewarding, and I am honored to have spent this time with them. I am excited to being applying these marketing and management skills throughout my career!
