URGENT ACTION REQUIRED: Calling on all my likeminded healthcare connections. Can I speak freely to you? I am very passionate about doing my part to help resolving this healthcare shortage. In fact, I have made this my mission in life! (MY WHY) When you have your world turned upside down in 5 words. YOU HAVE STAGE 4 CANCER. this was given to my late husband 9 years ago. Long story short. We did 3 months of extensive radiation and chemo. He had a 16 hour surgery. He spent 2 months in hospital. I never left his side. The doctors teased me saying I will need a U-Haul to move me out when he is discharged. Well needless to say he passed 6 months after being diagnosed. The point of me telling you this is to give YOU my why. If it was not for the compassionate, amazing healthcare workers, from the schedular to the doctors, and RN's and everyone one else that had a part of my late husband's treatment. I am not sure how I could have recovered from this devastating event. These healthcare workers are worth investing in. When we finally left the hospital to go home. I bought the whole floor flowers to thank them for being so kind and compassionate to my husband. When we left. They all cut of a flower and pinned on their uniforms and one by one came in to say goodby. Some even came to his funeral. So, this is my why. Why it is important it to have these amazing healthcare workers. They made a huge impact in my life. These amazing healthcare workers helped me get through the most difficult time in my life. I cannot imagine, because of a shortage some other spouse has to go through without compassionate healthcare workers to help them pull through like they did me. With that being said, have you noticed how difficult it is to fill positions in healthcare roles? That is the #1 concern from our Nasium Healthcare partners. The majority of the time. Did you know that the United States is one of the riskiest places in the developed world to give birth? And in our state alone, the numbers for Black birth mortality are staggering. Using data and information from the Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPQIC) White Paper Report, here’s what we learned: 🟣Nebraska's pregnancy-associated mortality ratio was almost 3 times more in Black birthing people than in White birthing people (Division of Public Health, 2023). 🟣Despite involving only 7.5% of Nebraska's birthing population, Black women account for 20% of pregnancy-associated deaths. We don’t want to just throw statistics around because behind the numbers are real lives and families impacted by preventable tragedies. Let’s get to some of the root causes! Systemic racism, implicit bias, and historical injustices ingrained in our healthcare system have created higher-risk pregnancies and fatal disparities for Black birthing people. It’s disgusting. But there’s hope! ✨ We must protect access to Black Doula care, create community-based change, and hold the healthcare system accountable! This weekend is the perfect time to dive into this report and educate yourself on what’s happening right here in Nebraska. Job hunting can often feel overwhelming, something I see regularly with my candidates. I always encourage clinicians I speak with to focus on what's most important to them, factors like location, salary, flexibility, caseload, etc. Rank potential companies on these key criteria to quickly see which ones align with your priorities. Don't overlook the importance of your intuition either! After meeting with a clinic and interviewing, take some time to reflect on your interactions and overall feelings about the role and environment. This #ReproductiveJustice Tuesday, we are uplifting a documentary that brings attention to abortion access issues right here in Denver. Denver might seem like a champion of access for reproductive healthcare services. However, it's important to remember that laws allowing choice don't necessarily mean that abortion services are accessible. Denver already serves the surrounding state of Colorado where 30% of counties are classified as maternal care deserts. And since the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, we have seen a higher number of abortions in Denver due to pregnant people from anti-abortion states seeking services here, which strains available resources. Moreover, when it comes to healthcare access, Denver's care deserts are fed by problematic institutional practices that result in racism, poverty, and a lack of education and transportation access. The majority of people affected are pregnant people of color – who are also the main victims of the extremely high national maternal mortality rate. Watch this mind-opening documentary written and directed by Felicity Daleccio titled "ACCESS: Reproductive Care Deserts in The Denver Metro Area" to learn more. On today's episode of "What's on my recruiter mind"..... Let's talk Interview Prep for my new RN grads hoping to land their 1st professional role as a nurse. I'm currently busy this week both extending offers for our May cohort and scheduling interviews for our August group. New grad residencies can be one of the most competitive roles you can apply for. How do you stand out after you have been invited to interview? 📌 Research the hospital and program you are applying for. 📌 Think about clinical responses and examples for typical questions asked. If you can provide a clinical example instead of a generic one- always go with the clinical response. 📌 Ask yourself- do my responses demonstrate a strong clinical knowledge and basic RN skillset that would make me a successful RN Resident in an acute care setting? 📌 Prepare questions for the team that you have pertaining to units you are interested in and the program. I would save questions regarding pay, timeline for offers etc. for the recruiter 😉 📌 Rehearse- are you comfortable, are you confident in the information you want to convey to the team? 📌 Ask your nursing instructors or fellow RNs you did clinical hours with for any pointers they may have. 📌 Be on time 📌 Most importantly don't forget to SMILE, thank the team for their time and treat the interview as a conversation. Remember you are interviewing them, just as much as they are interviewing you.
