The top challenge that transitioning military members face when leaving the service is the lack of information on starting their A&P (Airframe and Powerplant certification) process. If you or someone you know is experiencing this challenge, your first step should be to contact the Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) in your local area. Click here to find your nearest FSDO: [https://lnkd.in/gjfDMYws). For aircraft mechanics looking to obtain their A&P, please note that there are minimum requirements – notably, 30 months of practical experience. If you meet this requirement, there is no need to attend school; you also do not need to go through the military's A&P certification process. While you can choose this route, it will ultimately result in the same 8610-2 forms and authorizations. I personally recommend using the program mentioned above if you don’t have enough practical experience. For instance, if you specialize in avionics and lack powerplant experience, I highly recommend either going through the program or gaining the required experience. If you are a recruiter, HR professional, or director of maintenance, it's valuable to note that the military offers numerous resources. I suggest getting in touch with the Joint Service Aviation Maintenance Technical Certification Council. They have extensive knowledge to support service members in their A&P certification process. FAQ FRIDAY Q: If an employee elected FERS coverage, or was correctly covered automatically under FERS, can the individual ever have CSRS or CSRS offset coverage again? A: No. Once an employee is correctly placed under FERS (except those employees who were erroneously put in CSRS/Offset and were already corrected to FERS), the individual will always have FERS coverage in the future, unless excluded from retirement coverage because of the nature of the appointment. #CBC #Benefits

Plan Ahead: Target Retirement Date: This helps determine eligibility and plan your finances accordingly. Review Service Credit: Verify your total creditable service for calculating your annuity. Explore Thrift Savings Plan (TSP): Assess your contributions and investment strategy for retirement income. 2. Gather Information: OPM Resources: Utilize the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website for comprehensive FERS retirement guidance https://www.opm.gov. Retirement Estimate: Take advantage of your HR retirement rep and get your "Retirement Estimator" Benefits Counseling: Schedule a consultation with your agency's HR representative to understand your specific benefits options. 3.
