Yesterday, all across BNY, we celebrated a tremendous milestone unique to our firm - 240 years (only eight years younger than America)! In case you didn’t know, the Bank of New York: - was established to help NY get back on its feet after being decimated during the revolution - loaned $200K to the country in 1787, not only saving it from bankruptcy but sparking an economic boom that helped transform its financial standing in the world - was the 1st company listed on the NYSE - was founded by two great men who were patriots and pioneers that both served as Treasury Secretary: Alexander Hamilton, founding father who revolutionized the nation’s financial system, and Andrew Mellon, who pioneered venture capitalism and backed many industries that helped propel the country to where it is today - as early as 1884, had women make up ~40% of its stockholders - served as the depository for what’s known to be the nation’s 1st trust, established for the benefit of Hamilton’s family after his death. We are privileged to oversee almost $50T in assets (including the top firms in the world as well as the US government), a feat achieved by staying true to our legacy of conservative financial management while constantly evolving and innovating to best serve our clients’ needs. This month FINRA updated its guidance around requirements for firms to oversee chatbot messaging for investors and AI-generated content B.4. Supervising Chatbot Communications New B.4.1. Q. If a firm uses AI technology to create chatbot communications that are used with investors, how should the firm supervise that activity? A. Depending on the nature and number of persons receiving the chatbot communications, they may be subject to FINRA communications rules as correspondence, retail communications, or institutional communications. Therefore, the firm must supervise the chatbot communications in accordance with applicable FINRA rules. See FINRA Rules 2210(a), 2210(b), and 3110(b)(4) and 3110.06 through .09.4 Among other things, Rule 3110(b)(4) requires firms to establish, maintain, and enforce written procedures for the review of incoming and outgoing written (including electronic) correspondence relating to the firm’s investment banking or securities business that must be appropriate for the member’s business, size, structure, and customers.5 In addition, the content must be consistent with applicable standards, such as those in FINRA Rule 2210(d). https://lnkd.in/gKRza4aG

As SL is trying to finalize External Debt Optimization, it will be interesting to see how the proposed "Sovereign Debt Stabilizing Act" will change the global sovereign debt landscape. As mentioned in this piece the proposals are not about abolishing litigation but about creating a more level playing field between parties.
