Blending Old and New Media for Advertising Success
EContent Magazine
Native ads--ads that reside seamlessly within content, giving the appearance of editorial material--have become increasingly prevalent as consumer adoption of mobile technology has skyrocketed. These ads can take many forms, and marketers are always in search of the next new thing that will enable them to cut through the clutter to deliver an experience that not only will be different, but also will resonate with their audiences and, ultimately, drive sales.

The Effects of Music on Cognitive Load and Memory Recall
-
"For our study, we used a convenience sample of ninety-eight students from a faith-based liberal arts college. Each participant was given a list of thirty, two- and three-syllable words abstracted from Spreen and Schulz's (1966) norms. The students were given four minutes to memorize as many words from the list as were able. Next, they were given an easy-level Sudoku puzzle to work on for three minutes as a cognitive distraction from the list of words. Lastly, the students were given three…
"For our study, we used a convenience sample of ninety-eight students from a faith-based liberal arts college. Lastly, the students were given three minutes to recall and write down as many of the words from the list as they could. We split our participants into five groups – four music groups (two for each genre) and one silent, control group. The first two music groups listened to classical music. The first group listened to the music during memorization as well as during recall, while the second group only listened to the piece during memorization, recalling their words in silence. The third and fourth groups were done under the same conditions, except with metal music. Test results were based on the correct number of words recalled from the given list of thirty words. Results varied between each of the five groups. We found that listening to metal music only during memorization significantly impaired memory recall compared to the silent control group."
