We met for day 4 today of the CEO of You® Women's Empowerment Masterclass and it was amazing, just like I said it would be! My special guest Tiffany Fox joined us today to share how she went from feeling stuck to secure in her career. Tiffany's experience is not isolated to Black women or women in Finance like Tiffany. It's not even exclusive to just women! However, women, especially women of color, tend to feel the most burn out and experience the most hesitation and push back to go after more for themselves. For most women, the doubts, fears, and exhaustion gets to boil over so much that you are left with one option only - seek change! Tiffany shared the same overwhelming feelings as many other women. They also shared similar stories of victory after graduating from the CEO of You® Academy. Thank you Tiffany and to our participants who engaged in our experience today. Your presence was felt and appreciated. Today we touched on values. In June, we will further examine and evaluate what values mean and how they influence our decisions. For now, I will leave you with this nugget: Feeling lost is your mind's way of telling you that where you are is not where you are meant to stay. There is an intuitive notion that is knocking and telling you to go further, redirect, or simply keep moving. Many times, that voice is connected to your values. In what ways are your values pushing you into redirection and/or progression? If your values are as solid as before or you're looking for clarity, consider enrolling in the the June cohort of the CEO of You® Academy for a holistic adjustment to your values and so much more. Visit ceoofyou.com for enrollment. I also want you to join us tomorrow for our final Masterclass session on health and career connection. It doesn't matter if this will be your first session with us, I can guarantee that it won't be your last. Employee: Why do we NOT celebrate Juneteenth being that we are headquartered in Texas (a Federal Holiday) but observe “Good Friday”?! HR & CEO: We are being inclusive by letting you use a personal choice day to observe whatever holiday or special holiday matters to you most. 📌INCLUSIVITY SHOULDN’T BE A CHOICE! #culturematters #workplacediversitymatters #redflags #inclusivity

I'm calling out the Black Community! Let's Break the Chains of Doubt and Seize Opportunities! 🔥 As a TA Partner for 8+ years and a proud African American man, I am passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace. As Juneteeth approaches I want to address a tough issue that continues to hold our community back: the belief that certain opportunities are out of reach. Too often, our community suffers from imposter syndrome (including myself) "They don't want me," or "I'm not the right fit." Let me tell you something: You ARE wanted. You ARE qualified. And you DESERVE to pursue your dreams without hesitation. APPLY TO THAT ROLE! We live in a world where systemic barriers have historically hindered our progress. But now, we have the power to defy stereotypes and shatter glass ceilings. GE HealthCare and countless other organizations are actively seeking diverse talent like yours. Your unique perspective, skills, and experiences are invaluable assets that drive innovation and excellence. I understand the fear of rejection and the pressure to prove ourselves in spaces where we're underrepresented, but we can flip the script. To my fellow Black professionals......I challenge you to challenge the status quo. Don't let self-doubt hold you back. Apply for that job (make sure you meet the qualifications), reach for that promotion, and never settle for anything less than what you deserve. Rewrite the narrative! In conclusion, this is a journey of wins and losses. You are going to apply and may get that job, and sometimes you may not, but at least you put yourself out there! Keep applying and interviewing! As I always say, 'The best person gets the job.' You are Black Excellence! ✊🏾 Tag someone who needs this reminder, and let's empower each other to thrive. 💪🏾 #BlackExcellence #OpportunityAwaits #BelieveInYourself #Diversity #Inclusion

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for freedom and equality in our nation. As we commemorate Juneteenth, we reflect on the importance of freedom, #equality, and the continuous journey toward a more inclusive society. Juneteenth is not just a historical milestone but a call to action—a reminder of the work that remains in building a world where every individual, regardless of their background or race, can engage, inspire, and thrive. Our #students are at the heart of our #mission. Every child deserves to have coaches, mentors, and trusted adults who reflect the #diversity of our team at Elevo Learning, the communities we serve, and our core values. Representation matters! When students see themselves reflected in the adults they interact with, they’re more likely to feel understood, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential. On this Juneteenth, and always, we remain committed to diversity, #equity, and #inclusion. We celebrate the diverse voices that make up our team and the positive impact they have on the lives of our students. And through embracing our differences and fostering a culture of respect and understanding, we are helping to pave the way for a brighter future for all. #juneteenth #diversityequityandinclusion #celebratefreedom

Happy Freedom Day! This message is especially for my non-Black colleagues, so please read carefully. If you are not posting and celebrating Juneteenth on your social media the way you post and celebrate July 4th, Valentine’s Day, or any other Hallmark or National holiday, then you should really do some soul searching about why that is. I have worked along side many of you for decades. I have heard you give me accolades and praise for my brilliance, but quietly I still have had to fight this battle for equality. I have had to prove my worthiness, fight for equal pay, manage the myriad micro-aggressions, and still watch people who are less qualified and less experienced rise above me. As a Black American man, I realize that we will always be a minority in this country and that every step forward, every gain that we will ever achieve in this “democracy” has and always will require a coalition of people that are not Black. Ask yourself, are you part of that coalition or are you part of the problem? Please use today to think about what equality means to you. Black unemployment rates are still higher than whites’. Black college graduation rates are still lower. The Black wealth gap is still enormous. This is not a problem for “the Black Community;” this is a problem for America. I am American. You are American. What are you actively doing? If you want to support Black businesses, remember that Black businesses are in Black neighborhoods. Venture outside of your bubble. If you see something, say something. Don’t let your Black colleagues fight a silent battle when you witness blatant mico-aggressions. Educate yourself. Join in the celebration. Nearly every aspect of the American culture that you enjoy is steeped in Black History. This is your opportunity to reflect and take action. Be the change you want to see in the world. Happy Juneteenth

Thursday Thoughts Branding and consumer behaviors go hand in hand. It is one of the reasons I enjoy working for Target. Once again, the Black Girls in Target community I belong to never disappoints. I was on break yesterday and decided to check in on the group. It truly is one of my favorite communities. The item that has ever excited at this time, this 5gal Target Bucket. We are all trying to justify why we need this bucket and all have come up with hilarious reasons to justify this purchase. Some of the answers, trash cans, Halloween buckets, seed starts, using it to hold feed for chickens, picking pecans (which is one of my personal reasons), toy storage and everything in between. I will definitely be purchasing several. That is the power of great branding. #consumerbehaviors #branding #target #brand #thoughts #thursdaythoughts #targetstyle #targetrun #retail #customersmakethedifference #blackgirlsintarget #worksomewhereyoulove

I recently found a fantastic infographic that would be perfect to include in our company's DEI training. Kudos to the creators - Marissiko Wheaton-Greer, Ph.D. & Jenn Wells, EdD for this insightful work! Seeing great content go uncredited reminded me of the importance of safeguarding our creative assets. As a marketing professional, ensuring proper attribution and protecting intellectual property are crucial aspects of our work. Here are some strategies to ensure proper attribution: ➡️Effective Watermarking • Opacity and Transparency: Semi-transparent watermarks that blend seamlessly. • Layered Watermarks: Difficult to remove without affecting the visual quality. • Repeating Patterns: Tiled watermarks across the entire infographic. • Key Area Embedding: Placed over critical content areas. ➡️Additional Tips •Metadata Embedding: Include ownership information in the file metadata. •Reverse Image Search: Monitor the web for your infographics. •Consistent Branding: Make your work easily recognizable. Protecting our work ensures we get the credit we deserve. Let’s keep sharing and celebrating great content while maintaining its integrity! #DEI #mentalhealth #branding #informationsecurity

Black Women's Followership Last week, I spoke with a dear friend. Concerned about my current employment situation, she had spoken with the company owner where I was previously employed to ask if they currently have a use for someone with my skill set. He indicated they did but that if I wanted to return, I needed to reach out to them, swallow my pride, and humble myself first. ❔ My first question was: Excuse me? My Second: What do they mean by swallowing my pride? After further explanation, it was clear to me that the undercurrent of the message the company owner was conveying was that I would have to learn my place, be more of a "yes girl," not be a disruptor, and be friends with all the "good ole boys." 📖 I talk a great deal about leadership as a leadership SME, and followership is an integral component of leadership and the leadership system. First, let me define followership. It is the process by which a person or group expresses deference and allows themselves to be influenced and guided by another to a shared set of goals (Randolph & Parker, 2023). Followership is an active component of leadership. It requires intentional actions of consent and acquiescence. It also infers an alignment and congruency between the follower and the leader or organization. 💡 Black women are often painted as ornery, disagreeable, intransigent, and not cooperative. In the above example, I was painted prideful and unyielding to others' wills. While I dispute the prideful assertion and non-collaborative insinuation, I will accept that I was unyielding. Why? As a follower, I entered the organization with my personal antecedents, encompassing my belief system, values, and personification of integrity. I do not have to be friends and operate within the good ole boy network to be a stellar employee and valuable organizational asset. Conversely, asking me to appropriate to something so countercultural is not only insulting and offensive, it is insular and a counterproductive approach to effective leadership. ❗ Black women should not be reduced to preposterous requests to commit self-degradation to please those who are unfoundedly threatened by our confidence, self-security, and intellect. We should not be subjected to environments that ask us to commit treason to ourselves and act in ways that dishonor what we believe and who we are. An astute leader understands the importance of followership and getting buy-in and congruency from organizational members. If you want to learn more about leadership, schedule an appointment via my Leadership and Organizational Consulting Firm, Finer Consulting Services, at https://lnkd.in/gGf9wFUw. You can also learn a great deal about leadership and organizational development in my book, The Black American Church: Leadership Dispensation and Challenges, which is available on Amazon and other online retailers. #leadership #followership #leadershipdevelopment #blackwomeninleadership #womeninleadership

If you have today off in honor of Juneteenth and you're packing up to go to the beach, I'm gonna need you to stop. Juneteenth is not a day off, especially for White and non-Black People of Color. Today is a day of reflection, service, celebration, learning, and reparations. Here are just a few ways you can use this day meaningfully: 🤝 : Engage in Juneteenth events across your community. Many cities and museums offer these free of charge today. Learn, celebrate, and uplevel your understanding of today. For my Puget Sound community: https://lnkd.in/ga4ZrJNC 💰: Support Black-owned businesses. Frankly, you should be doing this all year, but especially today. Get started here: https://lnkd.in/gw3NHXQr ⚖ : Support restorative justice. If you haven't heard of the important work being doing by Erin Corine Johnson, go check out her page and immerse yourself in the Reparations Race. Even better, go support it with your dollars. 💵 CashApp: $HolaMagnoliaLLC Venmo: @HolaMagnoliaLLC Zelle: joinus@holamagnolia.com PayPal: PayPal.me/HolaMagnoliaLLC 📚: Read a book. There is so much literature available on Juneteenth, for littles all the way up to adults. A basic action an aspiring ally can take is to educate oneself. Today is the day to start. Find a comprehensive list here: https://lnkd.in/gZSjgx8y In the past several years, there have been systemic attempts to silence and erase this history. So ask yourself: Will you be part of the erasure or maintenance of truth? Happy Juneteenth, y'all!

Only one Fortune 500 CEO position is held by a Black woman right now. One out of 500. Let that sink in. This statistic is so upsetting to me, because the Black women I coach are very ambitious. They know what they want. They’re driven, committed, and incredible at their jobs. They deserve to be promoted, and I’m honored to help them make that happen. But there are so many Black women who are still not receiving the opportunities they deserve. So in honor of #Juneteenth, I want to encourage all the non-Black corporate badasses reading this right now to get INTENTIONAL about supporting Black women at your organization and beyond. Ask yourself: ➡️ How can I advocate for the Black women in my organization? For example, you could: ➡️ Mentor Black women. ➡️ Help Black women on your team get more facetime with leadership. ➡️ Make sure the Black women you work with receive credit and recognition for the value they bring to the organization. And to all the corporate badass Black women reading this: Your organization needs you more than you need them. You deserve more recognition, a higher title and more money. If you’re feeling stuck in your career, message me. I have so many resources I can offer to help you get to your next level of leadership. 💖 #BlackWomenLead #DiversityInLeadership #CorporateDiversity #EmpowerBlackWomen #WomenInLeadership

Today in 1865, enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Recognizing Juneteenth is not just about commemorating the end of slavery; it’s about acknowledging the true history and the long-delayed promise of freedom. Understanding and honoring this history is crucial because it helps us grasp the full scope of systemic racism, the resilience of Black communities, and the ongoing struggle for equity and justice. I'm excited to share this virtual workshop, hosted by the amazing Adrienne J. Lawrence, which educates and empowers organizations to embrace the key aspects of Juneteenth. Delve into the historical significance of Juneteenth and the barriers that impeded emancipation and explore actionable steps you can take to raise awareness and foster a culture of inclusivity within your organization. https://lnkd.in/eSvsWPsC #DEIB #Juneteenth #InclusiveLeader #Equity #Justice
