Check out GMK's recent elevator modernizations for the South Carolina Department of Administration in the Rembert C. Dennis Building and Solomon Blatt Building. This project entailed architectural and engineering designs for the renovation and modernization of multiple traction passenger and freight elevators located in the two buildings on the State House grounds. The scope further required coordination with a specialty elevator consultant for the non-proprietary elevator control systems. A total of six existing elevators – two in the Dennis Building and four in the Blatt Building - were completely modernized, including installation of equipment in the machine rooms, hoistways, pits, cab finishes, mechanical systems, remotely located monitoring systems, and security control systems. The Piedmont Park Conservancy is excited to issue a Request for Proposals (RFPs) for planning services related to the development of a new Comprehensive Plan for Piedmont Park. Piedmont Park’s last Comprehensive Plan was developed in 1995 and has largely been realized. The Conservancy celebrates its 35th Anniversary in 2024 while Piedmont Park celebrates 120 years as a city park. Coupled with the unprecedented opportunity to expand the park’s acreage and amenities to the corner of Piedmont Avenue and Monroe Drive in concert with the proximate expansion of the Atlanta BeltLine and Atlanta Botanical Garden, the time is right for a new comprehensive plan and vision for Piedmont Park to guide its development and ensure its role as the Beating Green Heart of Atlanta for decades to come. The Comprehensive Plan is envisioned to cover a time period of 15-20 years and be bold and innovative. It should push the boundaries of what the future of urban parks can be and do, set the standard for city parks in the Southeast U.S. and beyond, and reflect a diverse, growing, resilient, and sustainable Atlanta. Did you see that Greenville City Council has reserved more land near Unity Park for affordable housing by dipping into its tourism revenue? This is the first time the City has done so following a change to state law last year that allows local accommodation tax dollars to be used for housing. Council’s initial approval allows for the purchase of church property in the Southernside community for workforce housing, meaning that residents will make between 30 and 120% of the area median family income. This translates to Greenville’s median income of $88,600 for a family of four, while 30% is $26,580 per year and 120% $106,320 per year. Hollingsworth was pleased to see this change in state law and now our city government taking advance of it to increase the number of affordable homes in Greenville. The Raleigh City Council is asking for feedback from the community on upcoming election changes. The City of Raleigh Community Feedback Workshop for Municipal Election Changes is being held on May 1st from 6-8pm at John Chavis Park. Raleigh citizens are being asked for feedback on three items under consideration. You will have the opportunity to weigh in on: Should there be a change from two-year terms to four-year staggered terms? Should there be an addition of three district seats, bringing the total number to 11? Should there be a shift from a non-partisan plurality to a non-partisan primary election format? Their success is a testament to their determination and the effectiveness of our supportive learning environment. 👩‍🔧 Diverse Participation: We're proud to announce a 53% increase in minority representation. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is resonating, bringing new perspectives and strengths to the construction industry. 💼 Employment Success: An impressive 100% of employed graduates secured positions in nontraditional fields, breaking stereotypes and paving the way for future generations. 💵 Financial Empowerment: Our graduates are setting new standards in financial empowerment! With an average wage of $18.23 per hour, they are earning a remarkable 141% more in combined wages post-graduation. To put this into perspective, the average wage for women in West Virginia stands at $10.15 per hour, meaning our graduates are earning nearly twice the state average. 🚀 Bridging the Wage Gap: In just one year, our program has made a monumental impact! With our graduates earning an additional $462,945 collectively in their full-time careers, we're effectively countering the gender wage gap. To put it into perspective, the average woman in West Virginia faces a lifetime wage gap loss of $447,920. The Kendall County Main Street Campus expansion project, which spans multiple phases, enhances the overall function and aesthetics of the campus while providing improved services and accessibility to residents. The completion of the new office building in Phase 1, set for June of this year for the 2024 elections, will cater to county elections, county clerk, and county recorder services.   Phase 2 will include the renovation of the current 20,000 SF county office building, site improvements, the creation of a welcoming main entry lobby and stair addition on the north, employee entrance and stair addition on the south, and improved security measures. This thoughtful design approach streamlines access and navigation for visitors and creates a cohesive and organized campus layout, ultimately providing a safer and more efficient space for all. The decision to have a 3-story open space as the new main entry addition is strategic in creating a welcoming and easily navigable environment for public accessibility.
